I just checked and saw that it airs at 6 AM here. Yeah, not happening. That means I'll be watching it on the CBS web site or via a link from someone among us who has recorded it.
While cruising through the CBS site, I did see that back on 8/30 they aired Bill's report on the vacuum convention and I recognized some familiar faces. If that segment can be used as an indicator, the washer story should be respectful, educational, and most of all, fun!

I just looked at the vac segment for the 1st time ever. I hope Bill drums up enough enthusiasm and interest in our big appliances as he did with those little suckers lol.

And after it runs, odds are that every POS that belongs in the crusher is suddenly going to be worth thousands of dollars to those offering "collectibles" for sale. There is always a price to pay for publicity. We see it now with the inflated prices on appliances that are pink or turquoise, just because of the color. With this show, people are going to be shown what they perceive as very well off white men with homes big enough to house collections of large appliances so they will feel justified in asking outrageous prices.
I am happy that the show was made, that Mr. Geist realized his dream and that some of our beautiful machines and the men who have restored them will be shown to the rest of the world, but there is a downside for the beginning collector and collectors seeking to complete their collections and that is going to be higher prices.

Perceived value is key for people to bother placing an ad rather than call the scrap hauler.
Which brings up a thought. Has anyone here contacted said haulers and offered a bounty well above the recycle value for desirable vintage machines?

Years ago, probably in the 80s, John had scrap haulers come by his house a few times with what they thought were interesting items. A member in PA used to get to sort through some hauler's stuff. I think the internet listings are pretty much the thing now.
Let me reiterate that I am glad that the program was made. We should just expect higher prices now with no relation to the quality of the machines being offered because instead of just being second hand appliances, they will be seen as collectibles by some sellers. That, of course, will not be helpful to people needing a good used appliance. I guess you will need urchins in tow if you want to bargain a lower price, preferably in dirty clothes if you are trying to buy laundry equipment.

There 'may' be a spike in prices. But, like everything else, once people find out that others won't pay inflated prices, things will return to status quo.

Excellent thought as I was thinking the same.
The next thing I think we'll see is once the show airs, IF what you predict starts to happen, you can be sure the CEOs or whom ever at the Helm at Whirlpool and whatever other Appliance manufacturers are left, they'll immediately start offering retro vintage colors on Crappy POS machines to capture the audience at astronomical prices. Thus the end of the reign of Stainless Steel which I would gladly throw a party for. My personal biggest reason for my detest of SS is I have worked in a commercial Food Service environment my whole life. And I'm surrounded by Stainless. It is so pleasant to come home and look at my White, Black, Harvest, Coppertone, appliances and not worry about smudges and glaring Stainless.
I will be at work but will check in here as soon as I can hopefully watch it here via Link.

WOW!! Everyone one of y'all shine as much as the porcelain of the machines!!! Cal, Mike, John L, Greg, and Jon really touched my heart! So good o see so many of y'all I actually know in person. Paulo good to see you go t be included.
