Changing user name

There's no provision for board users to directly change their existing username. I suppose a new account could be created but the other one would still exist and it may be against board policy to have multiples.
Robert/Webmaster may be willing to change it if requested and there's a reasonable reason.
No I have no way of going back through all the old posts and changing a username without having to write new code. I don't want risk creating a bug in the database by doing that manually.
Lord, I wish I could change my user handle, LOL. Twenty years ago I chose swestoyz as I was really big into the automotive hobby, especially 80's Toyotas.
Oh well, sometimes nicknames we don't like end up becoming an old well worn hat we wear as we walk into a place where "everybody knows your name".

So here’s how I got my username, back in 2016 I acquired a early 80’s Maytag 810 set, when I joined, I went by the serial number (didn’t know how to read and decode serial numbers), since there was an 85 in the serial number, thought that was the year it was manufactured (close, but not quite). As time moved on, changed my name and handle to Sean A806 on YouTube, has been the same thing for the past 7 years.
Since it’s involved rewriting code and such, an easier solution for me is to mostly just post in the imperial forum index, seldomly post in the other forum indexes to avoid conflicts etc.

When I first joined vacuumland.org, I only had one option for my username (couldn't be capitalized or having spaces like on my YouTube channel). But when I later joined on this site, apparently I had multiple choices but chose to keep it the same as my VL username which I've since been used to.
When I first joined AW.org I’d never been on any online site as a member before. I wanted to maintain some sense of being anonymous and I couldn’t think of what to use a my user name. I finally decided on using my first Eligibility Worker number that I was assigned when I began working at the Human Services Dept. almost 40 years ago now. Seems kinda stupid now, but it is what it is.

Do not believe our wonderful Web Master has created a formal process for members to change their names.
IIRC one member (from Ireland?) simply posted he was changing his name and henceforth would be known as "X" instead of "Y". All posts made under previous name remain so in archive, he just ceased using said name so new posts appear under a different name.
It's changing archived posts that likely would cause a programming nightmare.
Not just user name and password would need to change but archived posts under previous member's name have to be addressed. That is either direct posts under old name to new, leave things as they are or something else. Either way it creates work for whoever handles programming/code writing for a site.
Method one mentioned from start seems best option. If someone wants to change associated member name just create a new account and make an announcement that "Y" is now "X". Said post would be archived in group files so people can easily find it via search function.

I'm happy, proud really to be AMKrayoGuy, here at AW.org but at Facebook nobody understands the significance of it or why I name my food and drink AMKrayo____...

Usernames are not case-sensitive during the log-in process. Lower-case, mixed-cased, and presumably all-upper case (didn't test that) are accepted to match.
However, capitalization during log-in is carried into the user ID that appears on posts, and apparently is retained permanently in the database per what was in effect at the time of a given post.
My username is an acronym for a book title, which I always enter it accordingly when logging-in and it appears thusly on post headers ... except Reply #11 above for the test.

I belonged at a website for A&M Records called AMCorner.com
I used to text excessively in colors, though to much to the point of some of my posts not being easy to read...
Ditto for excessive use of Emoticoms or Emoji's...
So I was known as A&M Corner Kryo Guy though I guess have to leave out the direct association with A&M Records elsewhere off that discussion board, though you can see A&MCorner KrayoGuy as my Facebook handle...

Well, yes, Krayo is in Crayola Crayons is how I'd acquired my nick-name at that forum...
It was my excess use of colors that I'd garnered it and with using a letter 'K', as opposed to 'C'...
