Has anyone used Cheer Powder lately?? I just finished a bottle of the liquid and I really liked it...had a great scent. But I've never tried the powder and wondered how it did. I can only find it at Target in my area.

I bought a box! It's the 120 load size. $15.99 at Target. It smells just like the liquid. I can't wait to try it out!!

Odd thing is the measuring...it comes with an easy to use blue scoop with 5 size lines on it, and the instructions say to use more for an "HE full load" (line 5)...I'm not sure what that means....the other 2 sizes are for medium load (line 1) and large load (line 3).

Cheer

I have grown tired of the scents changing in the Tide line up, and I have always been under thrilled with the OBA's that are in Tide products. I have seriously considered buying a box of Cheer and purchasing some STPP online and mixing them. I am not sure that Tide would be a match for that. I am very glad to see that someone had posted about this when I have been contemplating this purchase for a while. If anyone has used the new "For all machines" version in a FL, please comment about the sudsing. From what I have heard it should not be too bad. Thanks.

It's been a favorite of mine since I was a kid. We didn't use it much but I loved the commercials for it. I will use STPP with it. I bet it will give Tide a run for its money!

I'm currently using a box of Cheer, I bought it as it advertised "color guard." I like it really well, so far. I wanted something that cleaned well and didn't fade my darks. I have not had any issue of residue from cold water or luke warm water washes, small or large loads. I guess the only issue I have is that it does produce suds, and sometimes requires a 2nd rinse. I like the smell, its not overpowering, but clean and pleasant. For tough stains, I still pretreat with my homemade recipe, and I've had good results. My washer is a Speed Queen TL, I don't know how Cheer would be in a front load. I suspect Cheer is the one detergent out there that suds the most.
I formerly used powdered Fab, the color guard version, and residue became an issue. I'm trying to find something that will hold up, that I can be happy with and is economical.

Do try it.

PS: I cut the amount they recommended, the lines on the scoop, and I haven't seen a decrease in cleaning ability. I do have very hard water that comes from an aquifer, but I'm now using Calgon water softener additive to fend off any abrasiveness on the pump on the washer.

I have used it in somewhat recent history. At some point in the last 5 years or so, I bought a couple of boxes on clearance. I still have a bit of one box, and use it sometimes for colored clothes I want looking good. (I believe this stuff is OBA free.) It worked well, but then I seldom have torture loads, either.

I have some sentiment for the brand--it's the first detergent I remember my mother using. Although I suspect that it's likely nothing remains the same about it except the name after all these years.

Is Cheer still officially being made?

I know it's still available for sale. But is it still made? Or is the stuff for sale just using up old stock? For some reason, I am thinking Cheer might have been part of some recent P&G brand downsizing/elimination.

It's still on the Cheer website, they list is a current product. Target has had it in supply for almost a year (the time I started noticing it).

What is interesting is on the FAQ page on their website, they specifically state the liquid as having the color guard...even the difference shows on the packaging. The liquid says "ColorGuard" and the powder only says "Stay Colorful". Makes me wonder if the powder is formulated differently...aside from being a powder LOL.

It's certainly sudsy!

My first wash consisted of a black "jersey" flat sheet that I use for my kitty carrier and a dark gray fleece throw blanket. I used the "Sheets" cycle on my Kenmore 28102 and filled the scoop to line number 3 (out of 5) plus half that amount in STPP. There are quite a few suds as you can see.

Impressions

Well after using it for about a month I have to say I like it for the most part. The high suds can be annoying but I've learned how to measure it with my machines. On normal sized loads I use the scoop up to line 1...if using the Deep Wash cycle on my Kenmore 28102 I put in up to line 2.

It seems to clean about as good as the Sears detergent...though I'd have to use it in whites to see that for sure. I always use the Sears for the white clothes...and usually anything I wash in warm/hot water.

One thing different is the after smell is not as strong at the liquid Cheer is. It has the same fragrance, but the liquid left a stronger smell for finished laundry. I actually liked that...but my clothes still smell fresh.

Good to know Cheryl! I know powders are suppose to work better, probably because they have washing soda in them. I bought some Biz to boost it's performance too. That stuff is amazing.

Ya I really like Biz if I need a enzyme soak. Or if I'm in the mood to use a detergent that doesn't have enzymes.
As far as Cheer, would love to find some from say the early 80's lol Cheryl

If you have any problems with over sudsing in any washer using any detergent all you have to do is add a little fabric softener into the wash water. It kills the suds very quickly and works on both HE and non-HE machines.

Thanks for the tip! Actually using this detergent triggered my machine to switch into suds eliminating mode. It filled up completely with water then drained. I def have to be careful.

Cheryl - I'd love to find some too! Cheer had the best commercials in the 80's and early 90's
