My co worker who does deliveries for the shop called me on my cell. "Drew, I need your help on this stove delivery." I told him that I was SLAMMED on my call route and couldn't he call one of the other shop guys. "No, I think you'd REALLY want to help me haul off this old stove." Really??? "You >>>REALLY<<< want to come help me..." Hmmmm....

Interest raised, I went to go help him. WOW!!! I was NOT sorry at all and even offered to use Jeri's bed to haul off the old one. You know, "To make sure it was properly hauled off..."

OH. MY. GOD.

A big welcome to the newest member of the RCD Harem. (Yes, Geoff. I said 'harem'...)

We are late 40's to early 50's and was a one owner range. Yes, it was a little old lady who owned her. The usual everyday scrunge to clean but I gave her a quick touchup for her intro pictures...

The CROWN JEWEL: The factory salt and pepper shakers!

We have lights. The clock will need a timer motor but surprisingly enough, I had kept a spare console off of a mangled one years ago. Wisely it seems... The timed oven solenoid still functions. I'll hook her up to gas later but I was told that it all works and the ovens are right on the money!

What's under the hood?

This is a six burner top. The grates are in fantastic shape. The top is intact with the usual discoloration around the burners that you'd expect from years of good cooking.

A closeup of the top. Annoyingly enough, the lid is supposed to have two sliding bars, one to a side, that hook onto the chrome backsplash when you convert it to a shelf. The one on the left is missing but the previous owner says she might have it and will look. She's also going to try to locate the misplaced beauty vent grate that covers the right side oven vent on the backsplash...

Did I say two ovens? Both with the broiler drawers under them. I prefer this to the wasted space of a storage drawer. I know, we need cleaning. I'll just use the self clean cycle. OH YEAH! >I'M< the self cleaning cycle with this one... LOL!

Door springs are good and look! The oven lights work as well. There are actually little door switches for the lights...

Another shot. The previous owner also has the left side broiler drawer handle assy somewhere. It fell off and she set it aside to be reattached someday...

There are minor hits in the finish here and there. I plan on eventually doing a complete teardown and rebuild of this stove including new insulation, finish repair and possible rechroming of the main top and backsplash.

I wonder if a 'Glamor NiteShot' would work?

OH YEAH! I don't know how many of you are vintage gas range fanatics but I'm on cloud nine with this haulaway. This is the stuff that heirlooms are made of. Son of a gun! She didn't even make it to the pile. Another that got away...

Solid

I really enjoy cooking on gas when they have the solid burner plates that even out the heat distribution. I love having two ovens.

Child, go play the lottery. I know, like lightning, that it doesn't strike twice in the same place, at the same time but DAYUM!

That is one amazing stroke of luck! Worth thousands.

Very nice! And, a rather rare set-up: Most O&Ms had four burners with a griddle in the middle and the left oven was usually the broiler and had a "Grillevator" in it.

The Aristocrat model of the same era had a griddle that you set over two of the burners - I wonder if this one had the same thing. You might ask the previous owner about that, she might still have it.

Wow! How beautiful! Did O'Keefe and Merritt and Roper share parts? The grates and oven bottom look very similar to our 1947 Roper.
