COMPANY NEWS; PROCTER & GAMBLE TO MERGE SOLO AND BOLD BRANDS
The Procter & Gamble Company plans to merge its Solo and Bold laundry detergent brands, calling the new product New Bold. Bold, a national brand which has been around since 1965, accounts for about 3 percent of the market, according to Nielsen Market Research. Solo, a regional brand available since 1979, has just over 1 percent of the market.

Bold 3

I used to use Bold 3 while it was still available back in the mid eighties. Unless P&G has messed with the Gain variants, the Outdoor Sunshine Gain has a similar scent to Bold 3. By the way, among a variety of interesting video clips, available in the below posted URL, there is a Bold 3 Detergent commercial.--Laundry Shark

Back in the early to mid Eighties, I remember looking around in the Sears store. Of course, my favorite area is the laundry department. Looking inside of some of those Kenmoores, I found sample boxes of none other than Bold 3.--Laundry Shark

I still have a bottle of Solo in what must have been its last incarnation; it's marked that its name will soon be changing to Bold. There's probably a few loads worth of product remaining in the bottle, and I just can't part with it because it's one of my favorite detergents scents.

Did liquid Bold disappear around 1999 or 2000? Haven't seen it in at least that many years.

"Going, going, going clean...going, going, going soft..

The merger of Bold and Solo was another salvo (pun intended) in reducing the number of distinct detergent products so they could expand the Tide line...

Liquid Bold-3 was culled from the line around 1999, about the time the "new" Lemon Fresh Dash was yanked...
