What do you mean by "the freon" It appears from the pics this has R22 in it. R-22 is not toxic unless you were to purposely inhale it. It is only because, supposedly, freon eats away at the ozone layer that it has been banned. A refrigeration unit is hermetically sealed so leaking would not be a problem unless a line somehow broke.
Most likely better built than anything Sub-Zero has built in ages---simply because it survives! Back in the '60s we knew all the people from Sub-Zero in Atlanta just from the multitude of service calls for my parents refrigerator! The freezer always worked fine! -Steve
This was on ebay 3 weeks ago and it only hit $350.00 with the reserve not hit so he has upped his price. Still a real find!If it was both a freezer and refrig I'd be bidding fiercely!!
It will be interesting to see if there are any takers this time.
Where has all the style gone???
I agree with you guys! I would love to have it, but the price is OUTRAGEOUS! Actually, I can't imagine anyone getting rid of it in the first place. Really beautiful appliance!!! Mark
Notice that it runs on 50 OR 60 cycles. A lot of places in the US still had 50 cycle power in 1950. Here in California Southern California Edison didn't switch to 60 cycle power until 1948. At the time they set up shops where one could bring their appliances to be converted to run on 60 cycles. My Electrolux vacuum cleaner says it'll run on anything from DC to 60 cycle AC (Some places even had 25 cycle power in the old days)
Who can say what is the right price for something like this?
Granted it seems prices for vintage appliances seems to be going through the roof on fleaBay, some items are rare enough to warrant a certian price.
What sellers don't understand is that if shipping is not an option (which is understandable), potential bidders are pretty much limited to the local area/someone willing to travel and pick up the item.
OTHO shipping an item like this would be a bear of a job. Craters and Freighters would probably charge a kings ransom. Still it is a great piece and would look great in many designs of kitchens.
