Surprise again! It's a cigarette lighter. These were handed out to dealers by LF&C to promote the selling of their coffee pots. I saw one in New Britain Ct. on a trip there. Didn't think I would ever own one....

Hi Rick,

Now that was really a surprise!!  Would never have guessed it was a lighter.  I sure don't remember seeing that in NB.  Looks so cute setting next to its Big Brother.  Bill, I am sure that you are right, that Handy Hannah is a Universal copy for sure.

Oh, COOOO-FFEEEE pot.

They were magnificent in their day. Almost entirely polished metal or glass with only vestigial plastic. Little today is crafted like that.

My pedestrian taste buds just couldn't get excited about French press coffee, but I found a good use for it.

I have the old pyrex perc and it is great during power outages (gas stove). I have a '58 Sunbeam perc and a Sunbeam vacuum pot too, but I must admit that I'm hooked on the French Press at this time.

Didn't you have a Bodum vacuum pot back in Louisiana? Is it still working? Glad to see you posting again.

I do like French press, particularly the first foamy pour.

Interestingly, when I was ordering gifts of coffee from my favorite independent roaster over the holidays, I noticed that their percolator grind is even more coarse than for a French press.  I always thought FP grind was more coarse than any other, but it makes sense that the percolation method would result in over-brewing a finer grind as opposed to a very coarse one.  Per reports from one recipient, the percolator grind was a real crowd-pleaser.

For an occasional treat, I'll fix up a batch of Turkish/Greek coffee in an ibrik.  You can make any coffee that way, but the super fine grind that's intended for an ibrik reduces the grounds to sludge rather than pesky particles.
