I thought someone would get a kick out of this. It’s been in my house since I bought it in 2013 and I never really gave it a second thought. It’s in a large sunroom on the back of the house. Wonder if I can get it running... my house is 50 plus years old and I still use the furnace and central air that were here when I bought it. I’ve fixed the TXV on the central air last year when it closed permanently. It all works great 👍

Anyone have any history on this unit?

Also something very exciting for me... I’ve been doing some renovations and I removed an old gas fireplace and wall that I thought covered up a fireplace in my sunroom but it was actually a built in grill with hood vent!! I was blown away. Somebody banged up the vent years ago, it’s in pretty rough shape. I’ll be installing something else and definitely getting this bad boy up and running!! I grill all the time!!

The window ac was built by whirlpool. If the model and serial numbers were coded like the rest of their products then this one is a model that was introduced in 1974 and this particular unit was built the 11th week of 1975.

That looks like the unit my Uncle Kell and Aunt Julie had in the den of their old house. They got it about the time I graduated, which was '74. They had it until the house burned down in '88. It sure put out some cold air.

I think that unit might actually be built in the 11 week of 1985, this unit is in the 1985 Sears Spring & Summer catalog for $629.

These were very good A/Cs but this one was expensive to operate at only 6.3 EERs, hopefully if you have a fairly decent central system it is about twice as efficient to operate as this A/C. However if it is not in your way I might keep it incase the central system goes down.

Thanks for sharing these, John L.

I would lean more to 1975 for the build year. Sears discontinued the Coldspot name and switched to Kenmore in 1977 and the knobs and style scream 70's to me. The knobs are almost identical to my 1972 Sears Viewsaver 6000 BTU unit and the data plate is very similar. I've linked a video to it below. I also included pictures of the data plate and knobs from my unit as well as a picture of an 1985 Kenmore.

Nevertheless, my opinion is worth exactly what you pay for it. :-)

Chris
