SERIOUSLY!

Would anyone out there consider sending me some Scott Tissue in colors? I can't get it here in Washington State, and I would be willing to pay you for the product as well as your time and postage. If you will, please e-mail me or call me at 253-572-1263. I know it sounds stupid, but I can't get a retailer to order it for me, and Scott Tissue won't sell to a private person. And it looks GGRREEAATT in my bathroom!!!!!!!!

I haven't seen colored TP for decades. I think it was banned in California in the 70's. I didn't think it was available anywhere.

Supposedly the dye in the paper is supposed to be bad for the water. But we dump so much other stuff down the drain (including dye!) that I'm wondering if the ban is largely symbolic, not practical.

Still, I don't mind having one less decision to make in the store... plain white seems to do the job just fine.

Rich:

There was a time when the dyes used were pretty harmful stuff, especially in the later '60s when "bold" colours like avocado, gold and deep blue were available. Those colours were accomplished by using heavy-metal inks, pretty evil stuff environmentally. And some brands, for some users, caused irritation, especially for women, who have special sensitivity issues you-know-where and have to do some wiping for No. 1 as well as No. 2.

But all that got worked out a long time ago. I understand that Scott's current dyes are vegetable-based. The main issue with availability of the product today is shelf space. With an all-white product, you only have to stock that. With four colours, it takes much more shelf space to merchandise the product properly. Shelf space in today's grocery stores is so valuable that offering four different colours in several different TP brands is out of the question.

Actually I think colored toilet paper was banned in the late 80's, possibly the mid 80's. I was born in 78 and I remember colored paper quite well in a house we used to live in in the 80's.
