Commercial Laundry Abuse

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

based on experience

Based on my experience, I have used front load washers, and I've noticed that the cold water valve will open up, even on the whitest whites on my Kenmore Elite back at my house. It definitely did on the normal/casual cycle. If I want warm, I expect warm. If I want hot, I expect hot. If I want cold, I expect cold.
What more should I expect? I want clean and fluffy clothes! The whole point is, I want a commercial quality clean without hassle, used properly or otherwise. I don't just go around abusing these machines, residential or commercial. I'm glad I use Speed Queen Machines who go through who knows what abuse or use, top or front loading. They don't do this stupid load sensing and balancing or any sort of messing around. They just plain work! Yes, I leave the doors and lids open. Rant over! By the way, I wish I had pictures to show you guys.

Hi Greg, as usual, you’re right on the money, if you guys can’t post, anything useful truthful or new why bother you’re not winning points for all these useless posts.

I wish Robert would re-design this whole website in a way to encourage people who actually have something to offer to be allowed to speak.

There are far too many people on this site that have only a fleeting interest in appliances, or really none at all, and they just keep posting to see themselves post and they keep replying to their own posts, lol.

I’ve never blocked anybody, but I’ve certainly come close with you too, and a few others but I can just skim over the nonsense.

John.

Jerome can express an opinion, fact, experience or constructive criticism if he desires. It doesn't bother me in the slightest.

If anything this site is ripe with vintage machine bashing, but I don't let it get to me. However, what I find ironic is that when someone defends a vintage machine or top load washer said person is accused of being all sorts of horrible things.

There is something called diversity. Vintage machines are as relevant as much as modern ones- ditto for their pros and cons- on both sides.

@Jerome: I believe you. In fact I fully agree with you. Thus far you've said nothing wrong in my eyes.

Everyone is entitled to a washer with the design features that they feel is best and which suits them best. Thats the whole point of a free, open market.

Unfortunately speaking to the contrary just so happens to be deeply upsetting to some members of this forum.

There is nothing wrong with wishing that in 2023 I could walk into an appliance store and buy a brand new inbox GE filter flo, center dial Maytag or a 1970s AEG, Phillips, Hoover or Miele or front load.

Firsthand Experience

To be clear I've owned a Speed Queen Washer and Maytag dryer for 10 years now. I average about one load a day. I have first hand experience using them, and I can thus opine about their results. no matter what anyone says I am not making any of this up.

At least I notice that Jerome stated what he said as a "feeling" and not as fact, and then when questioned he backed up why he felt that way. If you think he's wrong have the courtesy to explain why.

It's curious that at least one person attacking him often posts stuff as if it's fact, and then won't back it up or take it back, and then when pressed will insult those who disagree with him.

I had a long reply all ready to go then I thought better of it.

All I'll say is that the direction this thread took is a bit troubling to me. By nature this website is dedicated to appreciation for appliances. It's kind of a niche subject in the first place so isn't everyone here a bit quirky?

I've said it elsewhere and I'll say it here. We all come from different backgrounds and not everyone expresses things the same way. I would think this forum would be a place where those differences can be more celebrated than they might be out there. The world can be pretty crule, so why perpetuate that here?

Just my two cents, for what it's worth.

Re: #20

“I wish Robert would re-design this whole website in a way to encourage people who actually have something to offer to be allowed to speak”.

I think that Robert has more important things to do than this. As far as I can tell everyone here on AW.org has the opportunity to voice their opinions, thoughts, ideas and knowledge about a variety of topics, not just appliances, hence the As the Tub Turns, Dirty Laundry and Super forums. We are all given the opportunity to say what we have to, want to or need to say, within reason. Furthermore, voicing ones personal experience re: using and/or owning a particular machine is valid, even if you don’t agree with them. Their experience is THEIR knowledge base.

The problem comes when members choose to be unnecessarily rude, impolite and disrespectful. My father used to tell me that if I didn’t have something nice to say about someone or something to say nothing at all. I must admit in all honesty that I don’t always manage to live by this rule myself, but I try.

If you disagree with someone or don’t like what they generally have to say either just pass over their posts without reading them and upsetting your apple cart, or block them as a last resort. Robert has been very astute monitoring problem members and he try’s to first get them to abide by the site rules and if that fails these errant members get banned. He knows what he’s doing.

Yeah you’re honestly right, in my opinion commercial machines (the small household style ones) should always come with a heater, As there is a laundromat I went to where is only and I mean only uses cold water no heaters, and the speed queen machine that are used didn’t even do a spin, It was just drained and fill and drain and fill and Tumble and blah blah, I had to use the extractor that they have there but regardless if that was either a programming error on the operators part or something wrong with the machine, we will always always in the hot water and not just “hot 50°C“ In my opinion laundromats with hot water should have about 50 or 60° Fill for “hot” and then potentially a 70° fill for a setting called super hot

laundry sins

And there should be CLEARLY marked signs telling stupid people (the masses) not to overstuff the machines without sorting and if they do... We all know they will disregard the labels and signs. They won't listen to them! And don't even think about confronting them telling them they're gonna break the equipment, not to mention ruin their clothes. You would think people would know better than to abuse expensive machines. If it takes me up to 8 machines to wash properly assorted laundry, fine! So be it! I'm not the problem if they get mad at me for "taking all the machines".
Do the masses think we're really that stupid when it comes to laundry? We will not be fooled. I can go to a laundromat to observe the behaviors of how most people overstuff the machine to the point where they break, and then they have the audacity to cuss the place out.
If I owned a laundromat, I'm only gonna give them 1 warning, then if they do it again, I will kick them out. If they do it a 3rd time, I'll have them banned permanently. If I use a machine properly in the home, then I will give the commercial machines the same proper treatment as I would at home. That means using all 3 most common temps, proper amounts of laundry detergent, bleach, and fabric softener when desired, leave the doors open and wipe down any seals. I have high standards to not only my laundry, but also the machines themselves.

what gets me

What gets me is that people think they know how to do laundry when they shove every single thing into a machine then force the lids or doors shut by slamming them. They put way too much detergent and softener, even bleach. SMH!

And despite the old sitcom . . .

. . ."men can't do the laundry without flooding the house" schtick,  it's the men who are scrutinizing the detergent label and measuring like chemists in a lab while the ladies dump in a glug of this, a splash of that and a heaping dash or two of the other like an old family recipe.

I must admit... I've learned a LOT from the internet over the years... IN the past, I was not as good at doing laundry as I am now...but I always sorted and never over stuffed...I don't EVER remember using cold water. Always at the very least warm...

but with all the information at our fingertips, you would think this wouldn't be an issue in 2023... but it seems like there are even more bad laundry habits than ever. Maybe people just think machines and detergent are so fantastic they don't even need to think about it?

...they don't even need to think...

I actually read manuals, even on equipment that seems as if it should be straight forward to use.

Scary thought, if people think washing machines are so fantastic they don't even need to think about using them, what other machines do they think that about? Trucks, chainsaws, tractors?
