For those of you who haven't heard, the VCCC Board has authorized the development of a new website! Your site's very own webmaster has agreed to help us develop a shiny new site for the Vacuum Cleaner Collectors Club. We have been so enamored with Robert's work here that we approached him and he has agreed to help us put together a new site with many of the features of the Automatic Washer site. Robert and a group of us (mostly Robert) are diligently working on building and testing the new site. Boy, I didn’t realize how much work goes into building a site like this. I have been learning Photoshop and the basics of editing Perl and HTML codes. We have been gathering and scanning fabulous photos for Photo Of The Day as well as links to some really cool things like the CBS Sunday Morning show with Bill Geiss all about the Vacuum Cleaner Collectors Club in Indiana.

Robert is incorporating many of the features of this site into the new one but it will be very unique for the VCCC. Still adding things, brainstorming and coming up with new ideas. We will keep you posted as things progress, but look for the announcement about the grand opening!

Thanks Fred, this is Very Exciting

Yup, we're well on our way to creating the new website for the VCCC club. Its going to look very familiar to everyone here as it resembles AW.org and many of its features, just with vacuum cleaners instead of washers. The discussion forums work almost exactly the same so if you know this web site, you will immediately be able to use the new vacuum site as well.

For Now The Site Will Be Open

We have had discussions about a "Members Only" section, but will leave that for a later enhancement. For some reason the various vacuum forums have attracted some rather nasty behavior, but I am hoping that moderated appropriately and open site can work as well as this one does.

What does everyone think about a contest to submit the most fabulous image for the home page of the new site that would be in the same place as the fabulous animated Frigidaire washer is on this site? Would you folks be interested in partaking in such a contest? I am sure we could come up with an appropriate prize (vacuum, that is!)

Fred

That would be great!

Another idea would be to have a section that has old vacuum advertising such as magazine ads, radio spots, and vintage TV commercials. They may be hard to find, but I'm sure there are some out there.

There Will Be!

Robert has graciously donated his GE Swivel Top TV ad and many of the pictures of the day are some great old vacuum ads. I am developing a true appreciation of the artwork involved in some of those ads. This site will have some great visuals.

I'm of two minds...
I'm excited that the vacuum cleaner people will have a full-featured site of their own, but am sad that we probably won't see as much of some of them. Please keep checking in with us, as you all have become a vital part of our little world (and we'll do the same!).

It would be cool if there were links to each others' "Super" and "Super"-equivalent forums, so we could all keep up on the dirt, so to speak.

I'm with deeptub........It would be so wonderful if we could flip back and forth with ease. Both clubs will benefit and grow from each other. At the NE wash-in we had four VCCC members that were welcomed and will hopefully join AW as well. The common bonds are many, and the friendships formed can be wonderful. Just my opinion.

Or perhaps...

...we can extend on the idea on having links to each other's super forums, and both share the same one super forum. Not sure if it'll require extra programming, but if there was a passport style system (sorta like MSN or Yahoo), you could use the same login from this site to log in onto the VCCC site and vice versa? Then it'll be integrated, still maintain the friendships from different sites as we've had developing on the super forum recently, but still have the "separate" communities of Automatic Washer and the VCCC?

Just a suggestion...

Jon

'm with deeptub... I'll miss checking out the great pic's of the vintage vac's here, and the folks that collect & restore them with the same love as the washers. Well, I can always go to the new site and check them out. Sounds like a lotta fun guys!
