Compact Vac Racer

I am close to finishing my second open wheel racer made from a canister vacuum cleaner. The pic on upper right of this page was the mangiest, dirties Compact vacuum when I got it. Note, with a metal blade in a jig saw, the aluminum cuts like butter.

Cleaning the Bumper

Just another point. So mangy and dirty was the machine that lacquer thinner (and acetate) wouldn't touch the disgusting bumper - So I just painted it.

That is just too fun! What a great new life for a cleaner destined for the dump. It's fun to see the shapes and design become something different than their original purpose, it really makes you wonder what the engineer's and designer's inspirations were.

Speaking of Compacts

Thanks, Greg. I need to get down to see Byron as all of my remaining Compacts (three of them) are spoken for. I am building a (maybe 7 foot?) Japanese style robot and need two compacts for the feet/shoes.

Those really inspire me! I love to see all the misc. and vintage pieces at a thrift store and am always sad to leave them if they are broken or not in otherwise good condition. You have made beautiful artwork out of many pieces that would have been headed to the dump. I must say that I love the racers and the robots the best!

Creepy Open Eyes

Rex - you think that's creepy - Well many years ago I was finishing the first of this series that I refer to as "White Babies". I had glued the eyes shut (except one doll), painted, etc. I was working late at night. I would be tending to something else and then find that an eye had opened. I would glue it shut again and then later find another eye had opened. I finally hung the piece and went to bed. In the morning, another eye had opened. Creepy indeed.
