I've noticed that Daz boxes have shrank from 780g to 680g and the new 28 wash boxes are only 1.9kg. Are we going to see a return to the Ultra compact detergent. Like Daz Ultra and Ariel Futur?

I hope they bring back the small scoop, maybe the arielator will make a come back as they say in the ariel excel gel advert that

"drum is the new drawer"

I can say that when my mum does the washing she still has the habit of pouring the powder into a ball and putting it on top of the machine and she says that "it gets to the heart of the wash"

Kyle

I doubt that powder balls will return because of sump sealing technology built into washers of modern.

Also it looks like heavily blued powders are here to stay, mix some Ariel with a drop of water and apply it to the fabric like what would happen if you used a ball in a modern machine using less water, it stains in quite badly and takes quite alot of liquid to flush it out, if not a full wash with properly diluted powder.
The heavier blueing in the modern powders are there to compensate for the lower temps and to make whites look white.

Ariel Excel gel is just one of those gimmicks where the dosing thing only serves to stop folk using too much and as a cool trendy visual thing for the liquid inside.
Everyone would be squirting it like ketchup over chips into the machine drawers, it wont flush away either thus making the drawer a mess unlike powders - that puts people off buying it if it makes a mess.

However Gel was the only 'new' way they could go with a product, despite it being less superior to the powder for cleaning.

Regrettably Kyle without sounding greedy or mean Id rather keep the tins as a whole set.

Each tin came with its scoop and ball and thats the way id like to keep them. Would be a shame to split them after all these years.

Look hard enough and percevere and what you wish will turn up, usually right under your nose lol.

Root under peoples sinks, if the kitchen is old or due a refit then go ahead and tell folk why you want a nosey, chances are you will find something pushed to the back.

okay =]

i used to have ariel liquid balls from 1988 but i don't know where they went =[ big chunky round ones

shall have to come to crewe one day for a visit shall be fun =]

typical, just realised I was missing one of the 2 80's Arielettes - its in the machine as we speak with the whites.

Have the Fairy one in green and the Ariel one.

The Ariel one comes in handy for dosing a good drop of current P&G liquids when I use it on Whites.

Cool Balls lol
I remember those powder dosing balls, I'd love to have one again.
When I was growing up my mum always used Daz Ultra and Comfort Silk lol.

Rob... I didnt know you had an Ariston?!

I noticed a shrink too!
Many detergents aren't concentrated around here but Henkel came up with a new line of Dixan (the Italian persil), all with new and improved formula and the bottle went from 3 litres to 2,5 litres for 25 washes, it was on sale and I got "Vernel freshness" and "active ash" ones. Also P&G is doing the same, the new Dash (quivalent to Tide or Ariel) got a big shrinking. The 40 wash box is as bis as the old 25 washes sachet. Since they changed the smell a couple of years ago I stopped buying it: it washes the same as my regular Sole (Reckitt & Benkiser) powder and costs twice!

Oh, I forgot, while the dosage is a lot less the scoop stayed the same... I guess it is a big marketing pro for P&G! Henkes shrunk the cap according but for P&G this means an over use of powder so more sales... now go and tell my grandma that only uses dash since the 60s!

Cost of the products going up - Amount of product going down

Its rediculous

How companies are pressuring us to buy the concentrated versions of products. Are they really 2 x concentrated or are they a marketing gimmick to try and get customers to use less or the regular product by reducing the dosage and the packaging.

Its said that in the uk, tablets will be taken off the market and the only products you will be able to get is liquitabs, gel and concentrated powder, which is a shame as i thought liquitabs were quite a burden on the environment with that dissolvable plastic, and i much prefer the P&G power liquid to the gel, and tablets are convienient

I actually thought the small bags of powder and refill pouches of liquid were a very good idea back in 1990s. as there was no wastage apart from the plastic bag or pouch that you chucked in your bin, but if they made these bags or pouches again but made them so that they were biodegradable then it would be more ecologically sound.

What they need to do is have powder in the boxes the size of Ecover wash powder and have a small pet plastic scoop that can be recycled or have a cardboard scoop you fold out yourself.

I agree that the amount of product you are getting is going down and the price is going up, in asda they are selling ariel bio liquid in a regular 2.5 litre bottle for £7.15!!

and Ariel are selling their excel gel for £6.98 for 36 washes. total rip off.

Below is a picture of Ariel Future Color which is from 1996, this was discontinued in late 1999 when tablets came out.

I never understood why compact powders were taken off the shelves in the first place. as the were in a small box, they were concentrated, they looke ecologically friendly.

Bring back Ariel Futur Compact and other P&G detergents as well.
