Greetings- I have not posted sine 2019 when David 'Turbokinetic' worked wonders on my 1962 TC-469 refrigerator. Although the defrost timer problem continues, I have kept everything working with 2x weekly manual defrosts UNTIL last week when the old condenser fan seized. Luckily I noticed the change in the sound of the fridge running, figured out what had happened and cut it off before it got too hot and additional damage might have resulted. HERE IS MY QUESTION: The old fan motor is 5KSP51AL-511N, 115v, 60/50 HZ, .4 amp, 4 watt, CW (clockwise?). I have located several replacement motors with exactly the same part number, and all the specifications are the same EXCEPT they are .27 amps instead of .4! Will this make a difference or can I use a .27 amp motor in place of the .4 amp? - John

.27 amp condenser fan motor

Will work perfectly well that just means it’s a more efficient design and will only use about 35 W instead of 45 W that your current one used.

You can also get condenser fan motors that uses just 10 W, and I have put them in my old GE refrigerators to save electricity it’s one of the few ways you can make an old refrigerator like this a little bit more energy efficient.

But in any case the .27 is an excellent replacement.

John, thank you for your reply! Just to be sure I am looking at apples to apples - my question was about the amps not watts - so the .27 amp motor can be used in place of the old .4 amp motor? Thanks- John G.

Hurray! New motor arrived and I got it installed. Refrigerator is all cleaned up, back in place and chugging away. It is much quieter now- I did not realize how noisy the old condenser fan motor was! We used to be able to hear it from the living room, about 30 feet away- now have to be inside the kitchen to hear it! New problem though- the latches that tip and hold the freezer door closed are sticking badly. I am afraid they will break if I keep opening the drawer. Probably need to lubricate them. Dave used some kind of special grease that can be used in cold - not sure what it was. Any ideas what I can use in the freezer to lubricate the wheels on the drawer and the latches?
