We were skeptical at first, but after an hour drive, the beast was real. Given to Tony's mother for Christmas in 1972. She's in her 90's an off to a home, so this had to go. She didn't like it, so it got used 20 or so times in the past 42 years.

Garfield kept watch on the way home. Got it out of the truck, and filled the sump with nice hot water for a soak while we went to the hardware store for a sink adapter. She fired right up, and is completing her first load in who knows how long. Pretty quiet, too!

Very very nice. I think the PanDandy was the special enzyme detergent KA sold to customers that was specially designed to work with the Soak cycle. From what Combo52 has said, it didn't last long on the market being sold. Unfortunate because that special formula was what made it really work form what I've gathered--The iitial spraying for maybe 3 minutes then pausing to "soak" and then resume with drining the water and going into a rinse and then the main wash phase. I could never understand the early KA models with the Soak Cycle (16 and 17 series that had the one spray period and that was it and not for very long--not like GE's PotScrubber with prolonged spaying for prewash and main wash. As well as Whirlpool's SuperScour cycle.

I think, but not sure, PanDandy was made by the W.R.Grace Co.
AKA : DuBoise Chemicals. One of their Commercial Dishmachine Soaps was Kloro-Kol.
Had a real nice Bleachy scent, as it was Chlorinated and kept staining down on China and Plastic. The RinseAid was DuDri. For DE Liming the machines there was L/S/R. (Lime Scale Remover).
The Porcelain looks mint.
Definitely a keeper.

Congrats - you guys got a great dishwasher. Once you get used to the loading technique in a one-arm-wonder, you'll love it. The "Hurricane In A Box" will never disappoint you.
I found a box of Pan Dandy at a sale once a long time ago - hard as a rock so I never tried it, but that box was so cute I had to have it. It could be used as a pre-soak in machine or hand washing.

I nice looking machine, good luck with the new find, they do work well after you get over the loading pattern with one wash arm on the bottom. Don't count on the soak cycle to get anything that is very very dirty or cooked on to get clean as I have tried it with pots that I knew my other dishwasher would clean, this doesn't have enough wash time to do the job. Other than that it should be a nice addition to your place. Enjoy it.
