Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

That Is....

....an upper-MOL range, from about 1975-76, somewhere in there. It has a cooktop light and the coveted two large/two small burner configuration.

Unfortunately, the interior shot of the oven shows a dull finish, which means Continuous Clean; manufacturers were flogging that alleged "feature" pretty hard at the time.

You can't have everything.

You Can't Have Everything

And so with that last comment, Sandy ...you just layed out a monster statement for all of life!

Anyways, I seem to find alot of these coppertone appliances and yet, in our families and neighbors, I can't remember seeing them in the kitchens....thanks for putting things into perspective, again.

Phil:

This also has the latest "buzz feature" of the mid-'70s - an electromechanical "digital" clock/timer.

Pity about the lack of self-cleaning; Continuous Clean was fairly new at the time, and a lot of salesmen convinced a lot of customers that it was "just as good" as self-cleaning. It allowed them to close sales faster with less effort, because the price point was about $100 less.

It's still available, but I have never, in all the forty-five years it's been around, known anyone to buy it twice.

..and then many people are not even predisposed to moving their mechanism to effect the self-cleaning process...as you have mentioned before. I haven't shopped or looked at features available now, but it sounds like continuous-cleaning is still available and hasn't moved past it's original lesser effectiveness than Self-Cleaning.

Hmmm.

The Problem With CC:

Is that the coating can become "overwhelmed" with major spills and lots of spatters. When that happens, it becomes gunky and nasty-looking, and most owners didn't have a clue what to do about it.

Which was: Get some plain ammonia and a soft-bristled scrub brush, open the windows and turn on the fans, and scrub the interior. Rinse by sponging with lukewarm water. Run the oven at 500 degrees for a while to burn off the residue.

It's about as much fun as it sounds like it would be. Although your sinuses clear up wonderfully.
