CorningWare 60th Anniversary

Well CorningWare is turning 60 years old this year.
Much to my delight Corning has a nice array of 60th Anniversary special edition products.
I started with the 3 piece mixing bowl set featuring the Cornflower Pattern. The bowls are 1, 1.5, and 2.75 qt, and they seem to be of similar material as the Corning Centura dinnerware was.

All the Anniversary special items are all in the Cornflower pattern.
They also have a few Pyroceram casseroles, some baking pans in various sizes, ramekins, Corelli dinnerware, Pyrex storage bowl, and a 2 cup Pyrex measuring cup.

Here are pics of the mixing bowls.
I figured they would be great for daily use instead of the vintage Pyrex since these can go in dishwasher.

What turd world company is producing these? Talk about jumping on a good name they had nothing to do with developing.

On the 50th, they brought back Pyroceram

 
For the 60th, you humble range-jockey suggested via email that they should combine the classic square shape of CorningWare with the see-through properties of Visions and call it

Instead, they called it Visions Reverse and it's only sold in Europe and Asia.

Go figure.

I read an interesting article about Corningware and the decision to discontinue the product by Corning. Apparently it was so well made/engineered, it simply rarely failed. It could be passed on and on, making replacements or new acquisitions more rare as years went on.

Much like well cared for cast iron, built to last.

We had a thread several weeks ago about another Corning product, Pyrex. Both products revolutionized the kitchen.

“From the Freezer to the Oven to the Table” was the Corningware sloagan for a while and it epitomizes the true versatility of the product. I hope the 60th Anniversary pieces are produced by Corning and tonthe same high standards of the original pieces.

How many Baby Boomers have watched Mom or Grandma throw their CorningWare Pyroceram pie plate on the stove to melt the butter for a graham cracker crust?

 

Do the same with this one (who reads warnings anymore anyway?) and your dessert plans will meet an explosive end.

Apparently the only legacy Corning works in operation are the Corelle factory in Corning, New York and the Pyrex plant in Charleroi, Pennsylvania.  Thus, the Corelle Vitrelle plates and bowls but not the mugs and the Pyrex glassware are made in the USA.  Accessories might come from various sources.  Read the detailed descriptions of each item.

 

The Pyroceram pieces are made in France, probably in the same factory that makes Luminarc for the European market.  The Pyrex lids don't have a country of origin molded into them but might come from the USA or France.

Vintage Corningware Electric Skillet

While rummaging through my collection tonight looking for something, I found this old electric skillet. The temperature control has a high temp of 425 F Corningware produced so many items, shapes and sizes.

I have used this electric skillet on a buffet during the holidays years ago and if memory serves, it held its own with the other electric skillets I had plugged in nearby.
