CR Test Results and Persil

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I still have the box of Megaperls for Colors that the dealer gave me when I bought my W1918 10 or 11 years ago. I have used a tiny bit of it, but did not see anything that great about it. I use liquid Cheer for dark colors when it matters. I mainly wanted the Persil measuring cup that was the subject of so much discussion at the time.

I think most USA consumers excluding us on this forum would balk at buying a detergent just for colors.  I have no problem with it because the detergent contains a color transfer inhibitor.  How did Tide do with Total care for colors - can't find that in any store near me. Both German Persil and Miele for colors have this inhibitor.  Perhaps a version of this may come to the USA if sales of the Persil Pro line are good, otherwise there is no good business case for trying to sell this here.

Even with the Persil Pro line, you can see that the Perls which contain oxygen bleach are really targeting whites and not colors. On the bottle it says you can wash colors but use common sense and keep the water temperature low.  Translation:  This is intended for whites.

For the most part I use the Perls on whites and lights, and only use the liquid on colors even though the transfer inhibitor is not present in this formula.  This liquid acts more like the Persil Gel liquid, minus the color transfer inhibitor.

Let's be honest. Most average Americans would not have more than one type of detergent at a time. Unless, of course, their bottle of Sun is running low, and they buy a bottle of Xtra to use next. (Chosen because it's the cheapest detergent on sale this week.) Of course, this really doesn't count--they won't open the Xtra until after the last drop of Sun drips out.

I have to admit I've been somewhat like that, although I think it's possible that I differ in that when I get the new detergent I immediately use it, unable to restrain the "new detergent to try!" excitement.

[Yes, Lord Kenmore is easily excited. He worries sometimes that the new detergent excitement will be too much, and he'll wet his pants. But not to worry: should that happen, he can try the new detergent out on his pants!]

For the most part, a special color detergent isn't important for me, given my circumstances. The one somewhat special detergent I have is unscented, and that I have because when I dry outside, I want the outdoor scent to be the only scent.

Im wondering about something?

Mind you all I haven't tried the Persil and I don't use Tide, but with some of you that are experiencing over sudsing .. Im wondering if there might be a certain amount of detergent residue in the fabrics your washing, or even stuck to the machines outer tub?
Is the formulation in the Persil breaking some of whats already there in the fabric, or hidden in the machine loose?
I mean the same way washing with just STPP or washing soda will sometime strip old detergent residue loose, and cause that residue to start to reactivate?

Residue

Stan, I agree with your thoughts about the residue. When I tried Persil my clothes were noticeably more rough/stiff. Could that be Tide detergent residue, or maybe Persil residue not being properly rinsed out, or maybe both? Anyone else experience that? The Persil did take a lot more rinsing than the Tide Turbo.

Update: As mentioned upthread, I washed a huge load of whites with Persil Pro-Clean 2-in-1 on June 7th. I rotate two groups of personal whites (for eveness of wear) and got to the Persil-washed group this morning, June 18. The scent of Persil is still front-and-center. Their formula must be of the newer super-tenacious variety. Not entirely sure I appreciate that, but can't fault the detergent's cleaning power.

One way to soften the aroma of Persil is to use about a 1/3 cup of borax to the wash cycle. I do that and the scent is not that strong at all. I also use liquid Downy April Fresh and they seem to go together for some reason. I have been using Persil Original scent liquid for colors and the PowerPearls for whites and have not touched Tide since. I think that the scent of Persil smells a whole lot better than Tide liquid or powder. And since P&G can't stop messing with the scent of Tide because it smells nothing like it used to especially the Original Powder...

Mike-- If you're asking about Wisk's performance/placing in Consumer Reports' tests, Cheryl is right: It scored a 71 and is ranked sixth. (Aside: Rank is never as important to me. Total score is the important factor.)

It lost a few points when CR retested it in cool (75-degree) water, specificially because it no longer removed dust sebum (the components of ring-around-the-collar) well.

If you're using Wisk in 90-degree (or warmer) water, it should still do a very good job removing dust sebum.

I use to line 0 or line 1 and never have to get to line 2.  So far I can't seem to smell any scent after a wash with 2 rinses.  I am using the regular pro liquid for my colors and the Perls for whites.  If anyone has used the regular liquid as well as the 2n1 can you tell me if the scent is stronger in the regular 2n1 than the regular liquid?

If you check out the Persil Pro web site you see that they really intend the Perls for whites since it has oxygen bleach, and the liquid for colors.

I have been consistently happy using only Wisk detergent for the past severa years, I not only like its performance but its very light almost unnoticeable scent.

I would give Persil a try if it were ever offered somewhere other than Wal-Mart. I refuse to step foot in that store and haven't done so since 2008

Jerrod, I have stock piles of this detergent thanks to my son. IMO the regular is a tad lighter on scent, not much, but it also doesn't have the cleaning power the 2 in 1 does. I'm a powder fan, but I can't let all this persil go to waste and it is excellent. I did learn the hard way not to use the 2 in 1 on lightly soiled bed linens, it kicked up way to much suds, but on a load of working outside dirty, sweaty clothes I had no suds issues. I kinda thought the persil liquids were for darks and the pearls for whites, but their not going to be marketed that way in the states. Do you use the pearls, whats your opinion on them? I read a post here but can't remember who wrote it that they mix the pearls with tide/bleach, I have been doing that and my whites are gleaming. But back to your Q about the scents IMO I would not sacrifice cleaning for scent since the regular smells al.ost the same as the 2 in 1. Have a good day Cheryl

scent

So for those of you wondering about the scent.... On one of my trips I've been to Walmart and sniffed some versions of the Persil.

The pearls smell nearly the same as in Germany,, so no big difference there.

The Original Scent liquid smells like the Persil gel in Germany. I would say it is completely the same scent.

The IntenseFresh Version is a mixture between the Original Scent and something else. We don't have this scent in Germany. I found it to be okay.

Tide HE-Turbo

I just opened my first jug of T-HE-T this afternoon. And all I can say is WOW!
I ran a test load with a full dose at line 4 in my FL. No suds remained after the first rinse. AMAZING! I think they finally got it right with this one!

speaking of Wisk

Has anyone notice a lack of Wisk HE Free (white bottle) on the store shelves recently? Here in our larger grocery stores in Oak Ridge, (Wal-Mart, Kroger, and Food City) I no longer been able to find the Wisk Free for sale.

Maybe it just a temporary local thing. But its been several weeks now that it has been off the shelves, and I am just wondering if Wisk HE Free is still available in other geographic regions.

Wisk

Wisk HE and Wisk Free and Pure is not available anywhere near me either. I spoke with their customer service and they told me the Free and Pure is only available in select regions (not mine) and the HE is at a grocery store that is over an hour away. I am in the Kansas City metro.
