Hi Everyone,

NickUK's post in the Lenor/Downy thread got me thinking that we've not had a detergent stash thread for a while, so thought I'd start one.

Here is what's currently in our laundry room. We've been an eco household for over 2 years now, so they're all eco alternatives. The fun thing about going green is that it's opened up a whole new area of the detergent market to test out.

Currently we've got Neutral Bio powder & colour liquid, Ecover Bio liquid, Splosh Bio powder and liquid, liquid soap flakes, SportSuds zero residue powder and some Bio-D laundry bleach. I also have Neutral & Ecover softeners, although I've since stopped using softener for most laundry and only use it for jumpers.

We have the same kitchen glass cloths

Nice eco stash!

kitchen glass cloths

I need to move that cloth, actually, it's doing my head in. It's hanging up in the laundry room but keeps getting in the way. And every time, I get annoyed and then forget to move it lol!

The Splosh Bio powder and Ecover Bio liquid are my current go-to detergents. Powder for whites, lights, bedding and towels, liquid for darks. Although that may change as our local Sainsbury's have stopped stocking the original Ecover Bio and now only have the new Honeysuckle & Jasmine scented one, which I'm not keen on. I'm looking at trying EcoZone bio liquid for darks next.

My friend actually loves her Ecover Bio Honeysuckle & Jasmine, I haven't gotten around to smelling it so I have no idea what it smells like. She usually buys non-bio but I managed to get her over to Bio lol..

I found the smell a bit too strong, I'm not a fan of heavily scented detergents. I really love the Neutral Bio as it has absolutely no scent, although being Unilever made, it's not really an eco detergent.

As for non-bio, it has its uses. Non bio liquid tends to be good for more delicate items whereas the powder is essential for washing down duvets as the enzymes break down the feathers. But for day to day washing, I'm all about the bio.

I used the Neutral Bio when I lived in Sweden (before 2014) If I'm not mistaken it used to leave marks on coloured laundry. They might have changed that now

I haven't tried the powder on dark colours, only on whites and light colours.

Neutral is essentially the same as UK Persil Bio but with no scent or optical brighteners.

Here is what I use at the moment.

Klok is a eco-friendly scentless detergent. They have all kind of scentless products, great for people with asthma.

The almost empty bottle is a scentless fabric softener from Albert Heijn, the biggest supermarket chain here in the NL. The bottle on the left is their scentless liquid color detergent.

Between them is a bottle of Sanamedi Wasmiddel, it's a detergent especially for killing dustmites.

Further Oxi powder, from Albert Heijn, color catchers, also from Albert Heijn and prewas detergent Biotex. I don't use it very often, but love to do my whites with a prewash now and then with Biotex.

Ah, I've been to Albert Heijn! My brother used to live in Amsterdam and now lives in Haarlem, we've visited a few times and had a good look at the detergents in the supermarket, of course!

You can't get passed a detergent isle when in a supermar

I had to do so the other day when we were in Sainsbury's and in a hurry. I started shifting towards the detergents and hubby just glared at me, so I had to begrudgingly miss it out lol!

Very impressed......

....Chris and Louis by your sensible sized / eco friendly detergent stashes........

*crawls off ashamedly vowing to seek therapy and become a better human being*

And yes - who can just walk past a detergent aisle? I mean aside from 99% of the population who don't frequent these pages.............weirdos ;-)

Trying to work my way thru around 100 washes of 10 to 20 year old detergents that I've kept. The packaging has been saved but it's time for the product to be used.

Selection of tablets to go first. Fairy Daz Ariel essential, Ariel alpine,

The load that's being washed is using Radion Sunfresh Automatic. I don't recall it being this soapy back in the day.

Unless something new comes to market I'm set for detergents until Christmas by which time il start buying again.

Neutral Detergent...

I got some in December last year (pretty much when it launched in the UK).

It's a good detergent and the fact it's bio with no smell was great, BUT - it made me itch something unbelievable, to the point I had to see the Doctor.

Detergent reaction is something that has almost never happened to me, there is only one particular combination I have a slight itch to, and even then it's just a mild irritation, nothing like what happened with the Neutral.

(for bored minds :) the combo is Persil Bio Powder and Comfort Sunshiny Days, but oddly, if I use either product with something else eg the Sunshiny Days with Ariel - no itch).

Of course, me or the Doc will never know 100% if it was the Neutral (of course I was just sent off with cream), but it was the only thing I had changed, and I gave it 3 months of testing and still the same unbearable itch.

I had to bin the lot :(

Aha, Soupline `grand air'. Tres bien!

Used to absolutely love Radion. V impressed you've kept some. Do you remember that for a very brief while Radion sort of became Surf? I can't remember the variant name but I was pretty close to brand loyal to those phosphated (sorry) Surf tablets in the orange box back in 2000 / 2001 when I moved in to my first flat.

Gorgeous Bosch set by the way.

My current stash

Aquacycle and I are the qweens of green over here in the UK. I've been trailing Eco stuff for a couple of years. Here's my current stash:-

From left to right.

Simply pure powder softabs
Simply Sensitive powder softabs
Nellie's all natural
Astonish oxygen bleach and Splosh self dosing concentrated bio powder
Rosalie's zero suds
Sport Suds
Halo Sports wash

Currently the Nellie's is my go to detergent. So far it's outcleaned both Eco and mainstream detergents in my tests. It removes the build up of previous detergent, rinses completely clean, great cleaning and leaves everything scent free but really "clean" smelling. No need for softener as everything comes out really soft. ( I use wool dryer balls in the dryer) . It takes a few washes before you see the full effects but laundry is brighter, darks look better , removes gym stink from athletic stuff.

The Rosalie's is also very good but the cost of getting it to the UK means I only break it out on special occasions , for example meet ups of if a Washer fan is visiting.

The Halo sports wash is used to soak hubby's stinky cycling helmet.

For the Eco conscious

If anyone is interested (although I won't pretend to know exactly how green it is).

Tesco now carries the Seventh Generation range of laundry detergent, and have done for a good few months now.

Just in case you didn't know.

Liamy1

Yes, I've seen the Seventh Generation stuff, its one of the few bio Eco detergents you can get. I've not tried it yet . The lavender one smells a bit too "hippieish" too me and the free and clear a bit chemically.

MrAlex,

I got the Zero Suds from Etsy as the price was quoted in £'s . Turns out it was an American seller and by the time I'd paid shipping and taxes it was pretty expensive. I had spoken to Jon , the inventor and he's looking into a way to ship to the UK that's not too expensive.

Shipping detergents and other products to UK/Europe from USA

If it can be managed have always found those flat rate "priority mail" special boxes from USPS the best deal. Long as whatever contents can fit into the box rate is same regardless of weight. There might be restrictions for certain international destinations, am not sure.

France, Germany and other European countries offer a similar scheme and it can work out well for things like laundry products, linens, small appliances, parts, etc...

Of course the problem is finding laundry products whose packaging will fit into the various USPS or whatever flat rate boxes.

Along w/ Fabric Softener (if I can ever catch the Rinse Cycle--usually I don't!) and the even-more seldom-used bleach, here is my huge tub of Powder (w/ a refill-bag, that i'm planning to add/replace content with, as I'd done w/ four smaller bags I'd previously bought & blended in) that was the most economical and convenient, as I'd plopped it right in front of me onto the detergent aisle floor, while comparing it w/ the rest if the product... --And sometimes it will be the Liquid, bought on sale...

I've been using Seventh Generation Eucalyptus and lavender and will stick to that now my local Tesco stock it. I use it for coloured clothing and find it gets stains out well. I like the fact it leaves no scent once dry. Woollen clothing I use Astonish delicate wash.

Here's the things I have in my laundry stash.. I can also say that Tide and Ariel pods are the same size

I've used up the powder Lidl detergent.. I didn't like it to be honest.. It had no scent and made everything feel a little rough

Hi all

I've just kept it simple, with the expense of moving house and paying off a holiday I thought I'd give ASDA powders a try,
£4 each for the 45 wash packs, washes great, smells lovely and fresh and I've found the shout spray does well with stubborn stains,I always soak tea towels and dish cloths no matter which brand I use,I'm actually considering sticking with this combination for a while, I may be reluctant to give up the comfort as it's my favourite fragrance so far, it's also lasted me a while as I only use half a capful!

PS: Did anyone notice Tesco won the Which Best Buy for their Bio Powder?

Neil

Electradeluxe - Shout spray is great! I should restock it..I’ve also had that comfort intense! What do you think about it? :)

I didn’t know that Tesco was Best Buy.. I tend not to shop there but... in the name of detergent,, I might have to Lol

I love the fragrance of the fresh sky,not really into floral and fruity fragrances,I'm quite happy with the combo I'm using, and I'll be keeping shout in the collection too

Neil
