Help Support :

Thanks, Mike. That's too bad; a friend and I used to stop there on our way to New England when we were on vacation. Oh, well . . . I guess we can stil enjoy the putz.

First Orrs, and now this!

Dan, for Southwest Terry taught me to get a boarding pass on the computer 24 hours ahead of time, so you can be in the A group and go in and get seated first.

The Southwest terminal at LAX is a little weird, but the airline itself I thought was pretty good.

Ebay was probably the death of UPS good service, as were underhanded returns for Target, who once had the easiest return policy in the industry. Years ago UPS would pay right up no questions asked, but Lord knows what they've been through as Ebay has gone on.

KitchenAid from what I've experienced and understand from others is pretty good.

A Good Value

The Bon Marche (good store/buy) was a West coast legend that began to be more Target like all the time. The Seattle store became a Macy's two years ago. My experiences there are stellar. I cannot believe some of the mark downs (75% off the last marked price)in the men's department. Cheaper than Value Villiage and cheaper than the cost of dry cleaning. There is a sales rack is in the back corner of every department. The sales attention is better, but I wish they'd drop the goofy practice of making the sales staff walk around the counter to hand you your bag.

Had a good experience with Intermatic. Bought a programmable wall-switch timer for the porch and soffit lights on front of my house. A particular timer model that works with CFs, and even motors and heaters. Has a positive-action microswitch run by a little motor, instead of electronically controlling the current. Anyway, it worked for a while then started jamming. Exchanged for another at the local store, did the same thing. Contacted Intermatic directly. They suggested a different model, except it wouldn't work with CFs. So they sent a 3rd replacement of the model that will work, which has been flawless thus far (more than a year).

A couple weeks ago, USPS left a package. From Intermatic. ????? A new switch, of a different design that also works with CFs, and a brief letter explaining this is a WARRANTY replacement. Apparently they kept my info on-file and continued to research the problem, engineered a new switch design, and sent it gratis even though I hadn't registered any further trouble with the replacement they had sent more than a year ago.

OK, I don't just want to be negative. There are some great companies out there who actually care about their customers. Here are my faves, though some are local:

1. Nordstroms: We don't have one here, but I hit one everytime I travel to a city where one is located. Their customer service is subperb, but I do often wonder why they display clothes like a garage sale.
2. Starbucks: Not only good service, but friendly too.
3. Jim's Appliance: Locally owned and actually cares about repeat business.
3. Idaho Banking: Totally warm and fuzzy, just like in the old days.
4. Cricket Communications: Finally a cell phone company that has unlimited talk time anytime and is not centralized to the point of idiocy. They place their humans close to their cutomers.
5. Walgreens: Not too bad for a big retailer. Stores are very pleasantly arranged and merchandised.
6. Costco: Proof positive that low price doesn't have to mean low service.
7. Fred Meyer/Kroger: Spendy, but employees are well-trained, competent, and don't hide from their customers.
8. Dish network back in the late 90's. (Has fallen into the abyss of ousourced poor customer service and less than competent.)

My credit union Gateway Metro is good with customer service like last year I disputed some ATM fees cause I made some withdrawals at one of the Co-OP machines and they refunded my money like that

A new one: Medicap Pharmacys.. After the hell i whent through trying to get two scripts filled at some one elses favorite drug store, and the fact they refuse to take my insurance any longer because all they have is what was transferred there and they want to see the card which i don't have. Medicap transferred all of my scrips, filled them and took my insurance info and verifed it over the phone in under two hours.. Yeah!

#2 for Intermatic. I called last Christmas about a solar garden accent (a plastic squirrel....don't ask) which wouldn't light up any more. My dad had bought a regular rechargeable battery and tried it out...no luck. Found that there was a 2 year warranty on the unit that didn't exclude the battery. Emailed them to ask about the battery...they called back (on the 27th, if I recall) said that Lowes sold them and that I could just pick one up. I did and it worked. Several weeks later, a battery appeared at the house.

The rechargeable batteries WERE different---the ones from the supermarket (which use an AC charger) wouldn't recharge on the low trickle of the solar recharger.

Good service Intermatic!

I hate dealing with FEDEX, and I tolerate UPS. I have started using DHL - they take better care of packages and are way cheaper. I sent an auto part to Colo. Springs and UPS wanted $20.00 or so, the box weighed 12 lbs and was 18"X18"X36" in size. DHL charged $6.90. No, I'm not kidding, $6.90 when UPS wanted about $20.00. The quotes were both for ground, not 2 day or any other service.

I'm glad USAA is on the list, I have very few complaints about them and I've been with them since 1997.

I like Southwest Airlines, other than the fact that 737s have small seats. I hear it is a great, fun company to work for, the CEO once road his motorcycle into the elevator and took it to the top floor where he road it to his office.

I have used DHL (AIR) for years and they are great!

The few occasional visits I've made to the UPS offices in recent times have been so bad--------- I've just gone right over to Fed-Ex (Ground) and have had great service.

Oh yeah, WN is the airline version of Trailways bus. For fares that cheap I would not look for or expect good service----so it says a lot that they made the list.
However, I'll stick with YX thank you.

Kelly, The Bon is a great example of Macy's actually having a positive influence on a company. Before they became a part of Federated, they were kind of sad and gross: The downtown Bon Marche, which is a gorgeous store btw, was dirty and run-down with low-end merchandise (although their restaurants were really good)

Federated cleaned up the stores and bought in some better quality stuff, although they did close the restaurants :-( . But I still haven't gotten used to the name change. Bon Marche sounded classy. Macy's is blah.

Gene, Nordstrom got that weird merchandising idea from Bloomingdales, and I wish they'd knock it off. They have gotten better in recent years, however.

For pure class and service in Seattle, you couldn't beat the late, great Frederick & Nelson. Nordstrom learned everything they know from them (and then moved into their beautiful store and removed any vestige of charm) Too bad it was a victim of 1980's corporate greed.
