Danish Modern "Eames Era" General Electric stereo

The price is wrong. By about $1,400. Granted, General Electric had some killer Contemporary and Danish pieces, the insides may not have been Fisher quality, but they were pretty impressive for what they were. Just not at this price.

I have a 65 in my living room, different cabinet but basically the same controls and turntable..like new and I gave 25.00 for it!!

The cabinetry

is really worth more than the electronics, in my opinion...at least some of you know that's true, with some of the cabinets. I've done woodworking - it's hard to sell some hardgoods, unless you 've got a patron or were commissioned, but I never cease to be impressed with some of the cabinetry that housed less impressive electronics. Not that I didn't enjoy our 72" Zenith TV/Am/Fm console of solid walnut(ship anchor weight).

$25? Excellent catch.

I can agree here,too-the cabinets in many of these older sets was made from REAL wood and veneers-not particleboard and plastic with vinyl "wood""veneer".Maybe-just maybe thats why some of these are priced so high-their REAL wooden cases.Too,the wood CAN make for better sound!

There were two Danish G E consoles in one of our thrift stores about 15 years ago. They had to have been cheap, but they both reeked of mildew, and had a film on each one. I had no space anyway for either. The last really impressive G E I found had a reel to reel in it, and supposedly all worked. No space for that either. I saw a gutted 1955ish blonde G E modern cabinet with slanted legs on it, some moron put casters into each leg. That thing left Goodwill in record time, a couple of young folks with their eyes focused on MCM must have grabbed it. Wasn't really cheap either. I found a gutted Drexel/Motorola stereo from the tube era one day. Broke my heart.
