Today our Speed Queen washer (AWS76, from 2007) stopped toward the end of a wash cycle, and now there's no response at all from the timer. Circuit was checked and is good. It was hot day and our garage (where the washer is) was even hotter, and the load was a big/heavy one. So we're thinking motor failure? Do these washers have fuses to check?

Thanks very much for any info.

With some luck hope it won't be dead for long

I am in sorrow to hear this. I offer up a washing prayer to the gods of laundry.

The problem must have been thermal protection on the motor. We waited an hour and the washer is now running fine like nothing happened.

Prayers heard and the SQ love affair continues lol

I seem to recall John (Combo52) stating the motors on these washers run quite hot.

Given hot weather, and a motor that makes itself hot - I'm wondering if a thermal trip device (Like that on refrigerator compressors) might have tripped from the load being large and the burden of hot weather and "hot" motor?

We finally checked the troubleshooting guide in our washer manual. Motor overload protection is mentioned about eight times :)
