Death Knell for Maytag?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I doubt this will be the death knoll for Maytag. One of our members who works for Home Depot has stated more things are in store of HD this year with appliances. I read the comment posted on appliance advisor. I hope they do bring their dishwashers here. One model has a turbo fan drying system.

Darn! Wish I had known about this before getting the Bosch...not sure if it has a fan dry.

LG has some really cool stuff. They deserve more respect for the TV/refrigerator combo than they are getting right now. Haven't been to Best Buy in a long time, but I'll have to go there because I'm itching to check the LG washer line!

In my opinion, stupidity and mis-management at Maytag have left it in the lurch. They have lowered their quality standards to the point that many of the current product line cannot compete with the likes of Whirlpool, and LG, as well as others. Customer relations are at rock bottom and company morale is equally low. They are ripe for a buy -out because of it. LG is comming on STRONG, they have Whirlpool and GE running scared, it looks like the Bosch, Thermador, Frigidaire names will go away soon replaced simply by "Electrolux". Yes, I think we are going to see some real changes in the near future!

This should be interesting

I hope the changes come to WP real soon regarding their FL washers. The LG machines IMHO seem to be built sturdier. They are also far more attractive too.

That is one reason i would not consider a WP fl.THe door feels very cheesy, and there is just too much plastic on the front,..YUK!

Home Depot appliances, etc.

I have noticed that the Home Depots in the Houston area have
kind of lowered their standards on what appliances they carry. This may have to do with their Design Expo stores. I think their higher end appliances are carried/special ordered their. That leaves a lot of BOL appliances in their regular stores. In the last flyer that I received, they were carrying Admiral fridges and dishwashers. Maybe the LG brand will lift their image a little. Not everyone has access to a Design Expo.

Kennygf, yes Maytag announced it's pulling out of BB this quarter. AND, I saw a press erlease for the new US LG dishwasher, to be here 2Q05. Very nice machine it appeaers to be.

I've been told by several people (perhaps it was mentioned here as well) that Maytag controls prices at the retailer/dealer level. When I found the Duets on sale for such a great price, the Neptunes were $999-1300 - no deals, no bargains. Maytag set the retail prices and the retailers have no choice but to sell something else if the price point is better or (in my case) the dealer was willing to lose a little money to win the price war and keep the customer's business.

I'm curious why they would do this but Dyson vacuum prices are set as well. The lowest price I've found was at a warehouse club, purple model for $369. Still a joke for a plastic vacuum with so many shortcomings, but there isn't even a slightly lower "sale" price periodically appearing in the Sunday ads...

Greg,

I have friends that own a Brandsource appliance store. I was under the impression that the Duets never go "on sale"; they are the same price wherever you buy them. I don't even think they have ever offered rebates either. Unless your's was a return? BTW I have always liked Amway Detergent!

Dyson vac

In the stores around here-they are all priced about the same-no matter what model Dyson you want or wether its upright or the canister. The canister machine is a JOKE-over $500 for a canister vac with a turbine power nozzle-that should be $200 or less.Shows the Dyson machine doesn't have an electric hose. You can get electric powernozzle machines for less than the Dyson.Go figure.I did finally run into a Dyson upright as a trade in-TriStars,Kirbys,Royals will outperform it. You can get a new Royal Classic-Everlast upright for LESS than the Dyson.GreenVille Appliance is a "Brandsource" store-is that some sort of chain?I feel companies like Dyson,Maytage,WP should allow some "leeway" in letting the retailer set the price of the items-after all the reatailer did BUY the product from the wholeseller or dist!

prices

I don't think cmpanies can legally tell stores at what parice they can sell their products. There used to be "Fair Trade" laws, but those were struck down years ago.

We have Brandsource here as well (Katy). I've never been in there, so I can't compare prices.

I totally agree on the Dysons! What the heck. It looks like just another cheap, plastic vacuum. Believe me, I have been through the vacuums. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think that any "off the rack" vacuum should'nt be more than $125.00.
