My Fridgemore stackable dryer quit again and I decided that I wasn't messing around with it anymore. So, I went into my used appliance mans store today and bought a Maytag Dependable Care. Got it home and hooked it up and was amazed at how much faster it dried than the Fridgemore. Granted this is the first day but so far I'm totally "in like" with that dryer. My question is whether or not this is a real Maytag or a different manufacturer with a Maytag name on it. Just from what I've seen so far I would guess it's the real deal. I also have a Maytag Proforma dryer that is next to worthless. But from what I've seen on the site the door setup on it tells me it's a Norge. Just curious I guess any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks
Bill

Well, yes,

Sort of. Depends on whom you ask. I have an 11 year old Dependable Care set bought new in September 1997, and they have performed flawlessly for me. The washer (LAT9806) sounds like my A208, which sold separately when we sold the house in '96.

The transmission is not the same as the centre dial Maytags, or so I have been led to believe. However, I maintain that the Dependable Care washer was the last decent Maytag built. Yes, it is a water hog, but I have had excellent results from it. My only serious gripe is the comparatively slow spin...600 something rpm on regular, and 400 something on gentle.

The matching dryer has been wonderful, as well (LDG9806). I love the accuracy of the "Intellidry," and the chiming end-of-cycle signal, and this is the first dryer I have had with a drum light........

Don't get me wrong, I loved my A208 and DG410, but this pair is the TOL pair of my dreams!

Enjoy!

Dependable Care Maytags

The Dependable Care models were the last of the true Maytags made.Maytag is still making their top loding comercial washers and matching dryers that way.

Thanks

I just checked mine is Model # LDE8624ACE
I like the dampness indicator light on the front.

So Here's a question...

If they are still making the Commercial Maytags as the Dependable Care systems, is it possible to buy a set for home use???

Bill, Here is my Dependable Care Washer I rescued from the crusher last summer,I spotted it a half a block away on a truck, the guy was going to take it to the recycler,I gladly gave him 20.00 for it,all it needed was the hose clamp tightend on the bottom of the tub for the bleach dispenser,it's still like new exept for that one tiny chip,I found the matching gas dryer on craigs list but someone got it first. does your dryer have the same control panel as my washer? Mark

The guy said he had some more in the garage and in the back that were headed to the crusher also ,so I went to take a look and got a center dial LDE806 in almond for 20.00 also,I haven't tryed it yet,it's down in the garage,I don't have a 220 plug yet,I swapped the near perfect lighted control panel with my trusty white DE308 pictured that I found at a thrift store years ago,the top is perfect but the old panel was looking bad,I'll put the old panel back on the almond one and keep it as a spare,it matches my almond garage fridge,a curbside find, nothing wrong with it,it had a sign on it "I work, take me",two streets down there was a beautiful antique dining table with free on it so I had to make two trips, yes it amazes me too what people throw away. Free stuff from the trash.

When I lived in Savannah, I got a beautiful full-size art deco bed frame from the trash. It had a shellac finish so I have been restoring it, and it's nearly complete. I just stopped some time ago to work on my thesis. The bed frame is sturdy, with stunning inlays. I need to replace some veneer on the sides, but the finish is almost good as new, nice and shiny.
My housemate also got a 1984? Kirby Heritage II from a thrift store for under $10.00, and it works perfectly. At that price, they might as well have been throwing it away!

Sometimes the best things in life are free

Hey Dave,Since you like Volvos I'll tell you about the best Volvo I ever had and it was free,In '94 my Mom was shopping for a new Mazda because the '86 626 with about 200,000 miles had been so good so we went to the Mazda dealer to get her a new car and I spotted a gold '88 Volvo 240 on the used car lot,she was hesitant at first but I said we have to test drive it,it had 136,000 miles on it but was showroom new and one owner dealer maintained,I drove it and it was very peppy so she said this is an old car so the brakes might not be so good,I applied the 4 wheel disk brakes and it stopped on a dime, she said I know you want this car so I'll buy it and in a year or so you can buy this one from me and I'll geta new one, well she loved it and 9 years later,it was starting to rust and she got another car and said are you sure you still want this car,I drove it another three years,at that point it had about 300,000 miles and still going but rust was forming around the driver door hinge's and eventually started loosing power steering, brake and trans.fluid so I let the Golden Chariot lay to rest.at one point someone sideswiped it and I collected 1300.00,and I parted it out on e-bay,sure got our moneys worth out of that car,the only thing it ever needed were brakes, tires and batteries, the water pump, alternater and starter were still original, some of the parts still live on in the "new" '89 240 that I've had for four years. I know this got way off topic but oh well, How many fans do you have? I have four Emersons. Mark

Speaking of dependability, a friend of mine just replaced his early neptune washer, wouldn't spin anymore, just a circuit burnt out, with another new neptune front loader with the glass door. Totally different design from the outside from the previous model, doesn't match at all. So anyways he gets this package in the mail from maytag. It is a plug in ground fault breaker. You plug this into the outlet then plug the washer into it. This is to prevent the machine from shorting out completely cause of the leakage problems they have been having
with water getting into the circuit and motor I guess. Talk about dependable????????

I wonder if they'll just end up giving the Whirlpool toploader a spin drain and calling it a Hybrid of the two machines though? I'm hopin for everything to be Maytag with a Surglator thrown into it! I wonder what they'll think up?
