Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

It must have been pulled off the market pretty quick

Yes it was, within about a 6 months.

Any idea who make Sainsbury's, Tesco or Waitrose own brand detergents? Says on the back made in the UK but that could be anywhere.

Persil power WAS NOT a booster. The WIKI extract is woefully misleading.

Persil Power was a detergent in its own right and replaced micro system in the new products war against P&G.

It was on the market for quite a while, much longer than 6 months. My mum used it quite a fair bit and I cant say we noticed any ruined clothing but then us kids were changing clothes sizes every 2 minutes do i doubt anything had chance to wear out.

Persil Power was the bio version,
Persil Pure a non bio variant
Persil Colour as it suggests.

They came initially in a pouring canister that were designed to be refilled with an eco bag.

I see why the WIKI extract is wrong. The writer seems to forget the fact that Persil came in 2 strengths at that time.

Power - compact TOL concentrated with superior stan removal aimed at those who wanted everything a powder could offer and the best results etc .

Automatic - big box regular everyday powder that everyones mum's used and knew well. The image of value, great cleaning but no great promises.

Power was replaced at the time when Persil Performance came in and although the dosage on that was reduced although they did run a Persil 'Compact' for a while I have the storage tins which that was sold in.

Remeber the Persil packets on the Hotpoint WMseries brochures.......

Persil compact in the waxed paper bags.

Persil Performance

Last time I remember buying a box was in 2002, but at the time I thought it must have been old stock as I'm sure they had already introduced the new packaging and the Aloe Vera variant and such. Can anyone confirm when exactly the performance label was dropped?

I do remember at the time thinking the picture of the persil 'mum' on the back in her Agent Scully from the X-files style polyester trouser suit was incredibly 90s for 2002!

what detergent "replaced" Persil Power?

Whilst searching around the internet (trying to avoid wiki, thanks Aquarius1984 for the info) apparently what replaced Power was something called New Generation persil - according to the BBC anyway.

Persil The Original - Non Bio

I think its wording is misleading to suggest Persil had the first non bio but when you look at the way it was phrased on the packets I think it simply means,

Persil
The Original, (as in original (regular) Persil formulation with no enzymes).... (that happens to be) Non Bio.

DO I make sense?

and this term was first used in 1984 when Persil New System caused grief with half the nations mothers and grannies and they had to reintroduce an non enzymatic powder.

New Generation Persil was the Beefed up Persil Performance variant that offered better cleaning vs Persil Auto big box and didnt have the supposed drawbacks of Power.
