Dirty streaks on some bed sheets

Yesterday my wife washed our new light colored king size bed sheets while I was at church. They came out with what looks like greasy streaks on the sheets and pillow cases. They were not covered in the streaks but had enough on them for us to notice when we made the bed. The washer is a Whirlpool front load duet HT model #WFW9200SQ00 serial #CSU1801499. We bought it November of 2007 during one of the worst droughts GA ever had. As of this writing we have had no problems with this machine. Cleaning is great...use the clean cycle often and always leave the door open. There has not been any problems with it smelling like rotten eggs. We always wash in warm or hot water. Very seldom use cold water.

Is it possible the bearing seals have started to breakdown and grease is getting into the wash basket? This is the first we have noticed it.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!!!!

You might check your dryer too. Sounds more like a dryer problem than washer. If the bearings were going bad, you would probably hear it.

Sounds like streaks that can sometimes be left by dryer fabric softener sheets. Did you use a different brand or were they a new box that you hadn't used before? Also, sometimes if the heat is too high in the dryer these fab softener sheets will leave greasy streaks. You can get rid of them by rubbing regualr old bar soap on them and re washing the sheets in hot water with detergent.

No dryer sheets.....a little softener in the rinse but never ever use dryers sheets in the dryer. We have a GE electric dryer purchased October 2005 model #DLSR483EE1WW, serial #RH794077A. It is a long vent dryer which uses a sperate motor for tumble another motor for the blower....can be vented up to 150 feet to the outside. I did notice when I dried a load of colors on medium temp the clothes seemed a little warmer than usual when it shut off even after a brief cool down.

Except for a few rattles and squeaks when the washer is ramping up to full spin the washer runs flawlessly. Do keep in mind I normally start it and walk away till it signals me it is done. I check on it when its washing for suds etc. So it could be acting up and me nor my wife would not notice it right away.

I'll have someone come and check my dryer should it happen again.

If you hear the washer signal, you would hear it spin with a bearing failure for sure.

Check the rubber gasket for debris. If the gasket is dirty, it may give streaks on the laundry when it's being pulled out.

oily streaks on new sheets

My guess is this is oil/grease residue from the manufacturer, and the laundering and drying has highlighted this. I have experienced this on sheets made in India. Are these made in other than North America/Europe? Maybe try one wash/treatment to remove oil but may be dryer set, otherwise return to store, I highly doubt caused by your machines.

Thanks for all the advice!!! I've pretty much dismissed it for now!!! Should it happen again I will look further!!!!
