I thought with the other thread about viruses and malware this would be a good time to discuss the Disconnect Me software...
A few weeks ago 60 minutes did a story about data collection companies on the Internet. These are the companies that track what website you are looking at, what parts of that website you are looking at and making all this data available to those who want to purchase it.
It also slows down loading of websites because the tracking software loads before the content software loads. Ever wonder why cnn.com takes forever to load? Over 200 data collection companies are watching you on it.
Disconnect Me stops that. It prevents these data collection companies from loading their software into the browser on your computer. The result? Much faster loading of web pages and a whole lot less hang ups while loading.
Here is an image of a typical computer session I had on a particular website.
The website in the center is the website I was browsing. The circles around it are the data collection companies watching me. The circles with the red strike outs are the data collection companies that have been blocked by Disconnect Me. Need I say more? In real time if you click on any of those blocked companies the software will tell you who they are.
