Dishwasher storage...

A coworker of mine is buying a new dishwasher. However, since he and his wife are having the kitchen remodeled next year (yes, 2006) they are just going to store the new one in the basement until the remodel, then have it installed.

Is this amount of storage time going to cause problems? I seem to remember a post on these forums stating if not run for a long time, a dishwashers seals and such could be affected. My coworker is a great guy, and I wouldn't want to see anything bad happen to his investment. (Unlike other people at work, who I hope more than just their seals dry up.)

newsflash- just received this advice from a friend:

There is water in the pump keeping the seals wet. The person who said that you had to run it to keep the seals wet was basing his experience on a GE POS and it's not the seals drying out with them; it's the cheap steel in the shafts rusting to the seals if they are not turned on from time to time.

Makes sense: if you want it to last turn it on once-in-a-while.

2nd newsflash-

As a new machine it probably has little or no water in it (I am duly informed) and it should be ok.

My parents did the same thing 30 years ago, and their Kenmore badged D&M was just fine. A cheap plastic tablecloth and a lamp on the carton does wonders to help it blend in to the living room! LOL

Please, just have them be sure to have it installed and working before the warranty expires or they may have troubles that become thier own expense!
