Disposer Dispute - Help Me Settle This

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I haven't noticed any problems either with my old ISE 77, not 777 or with newer Viking 1000 which I chose based on Volsboy1's advice a few years ago.Usually now though I try to rinse out egg shells and crush up to use in the veggie patch as slug repellent and calcium source in one. A question for volsboy1 or anyone familiar with disposers, is the ISE LC50 a modern version of ISE'S top of the residential line Classic from the 1980`s. I think it lists around $1000.oo but it must be some machine.

No the only difference in the I.S.E. LC-50 is a cast nickel/Iron grind ring and the motor unlike all other I.S.E. has a internal fan

to cool the 1/2 H.P. motor..I have 3 OLD I.S.E. disposer's two I.S.E. 77 one which looks like a smaller batch feed 1970 and the other

is a 1976 model both of them the Model 77 and I have a 1968 I.S.E. 333 which is different than both of them. All my old ones have

a Cast flywheel and Cast grind ring the flywheel has fixed Triangle hammers and a center crusher cone and a rectangle ripper.

The hammers are kitchen shear close to the grind ring and they can grind anything very fast.I never have that problem with

things bouncing around the grind chamber. The I.S.E. LC-50 is no where near as good as the old ones I.S.E.(pre 1977) the inside looks very

close to this old Kenmore of mine with the Cast grind ring.

Never had a problem with what goes down the disposal. Do not put large item down, just plate scraping and misc chunks of stuff from prep. Never used the disposal for bones. I do the ice cube routine every month. Only problem I ever had was a non working disposal. I just stopped. Try the reset, nothing. It was not jammed. Finally opened up the switch wall place. A screw had come just a bit loose and no power got to the disposal. A quick fix. I have an ISE but I do not remember the model. It is 1 HP and is extremely quite.

Egg shells = no problem

We have an ISE 1 HP disposer. Prior to starting composting, I put egg shells down it regularly and never had a problem with the disposer or the plumbing.

Potato peels: different story. Disposer dealt fine with potato peels but, large amounts of peels further down the line from the disposer would clog our plumbing. Our house is older (1929) and large amounts of peels would necessitate me getting out the drain snake.

Now, with composting, everything goes into the compost drum. Between composting and recycling, we generally only have 1/4 can of trash for pickup every week.
