After a really bad day (like today), when I'm stressed. I load the dishwasher after dinner like normal, but i don't start it. I wait till everyone is in bed and the house is quiet, and then I start the dishwasher and sit in the wing back chair in the living room and listen to it run. I find that it soothes me. I think this is the only forum where I can admit that and have people understand. Does anyone else do this?

Of course!!!!!

Few things more pleasant to hear than the hum-swish-click-roar of a dishwasher when the rest of the place is quiet.

Jackson, you might be "odd" out there, but here, I think you're among equals!

I turn on my boom box and listen to my Maytag A408 on tape going through the regular cycle with a medium load of towels.I usualy fall asleep as the spray rinse is going through its 60 second cycle.

Does anyone remember this?

A line from Jean Kerr's "How I got to be Perfect" ""I also yearned for a space near the kitchen for a washer, a dsihwasher, a freezer, a dryer, and a large couch where I could lie on sunny days and listen to them all vibrate."" A woman after my own heart!

Yep!

Scrounge out a load on laundry, fix a cocktail, and watch/listen to the helical Maytag puuuuuuuuurrrrrr.

Since I've started using my Maytag, I find my self sitting in an old recliner with a magazine or book and cup of coffee. It's very relaxing. I would love to have my washer and dryer on the first floor.

Our bedroom is right off of the kitchen, and we do this frequently also. The other reason for doing it is that our electric rates are lower in the evening.

My bedroom is off the kitchen so I run the KitchenAid just before I crawl into bed. The cats get on the bed to sleep with me as the water heating portion of the wash is happening. They are usually asleep by the time the motor kicks in, and they jump a foot every time. I get the biggest laugh at this. By the rinse, we are all asleep!

I find it very relaxing listening to the fans run on the early sixties refrigerator when the house is silent

not this one, but...

unfortunately this won't work here. Our "FAVORIT" dishwasher is too silent, even when you leave the kitchen with the door open, you won't hear it. We live close to a motorway, so no way. The traffic hum is all over the place. Not loud but steady.
But WHAT I do is sit in front of the washer and watch the towels go round until that hypnotic cosmic OOMMM state hits me. (I might be looking like a drooling moron by then, but who cares)
Have done this often, it's peace of mind. Anyone else?

for me it's more of a relaxation when I'm upset or irritated, not like that ever happens...lol....but I like to run a few loads of clothes and "play" with my machines, and polish them....and watch the agitator oscillate......always takes my mind away from the simple problems, and then I feel better

Héhé

Sounds like the best way my parents could get me to sleep! I was (and still am) a restless sleeper. I would cry night and day... but once in front of the washer (that's easier with FL, you can watch while running!) I would calm down and even fall asleep. And still when I want to think about stuff, I just sit down in front of the washer and watch...

i do the SAME THING, i bought my maytag tall tub jetclean in 2007 and it is pretty quiet, i will lay on the couch and listen to the water swishing, nothing makes that unique sound like a jetclean. the GE bas model i had at my old apt was too loud to fall asleep to.

OK, I'll admit my secret. When I get a cold or plugged up sinuses I toss a large bath towel over the washer to make a tent and throw in a load of whites and steam my stuffed up nose. Got to admit the warmth and the sound is very relaxing, especially when I'm not feeling well.

that sounds like a good idea matt! i have put my face over boiling water on the stove b4, or close the bathroom door and just run hot water in the shower and let the steam fill the room.

Years ago I rented a room off a buddy....He never wanted the heat above 60 degrees...FREEZIN...so I used to go down stairs, put the washer on a HOT wash cycle, and turn the dryer on the longest time cycle and fall asleep on top across both with a heavy blanket...never thought to just warm the blanket inside the dryer, brain dead I guess....just did what you had to do at the time, yeah like running that electric dryer all night was cheaper than turning the heat up!
