I am looking to replace 11 year old apartment size washer - Admiral heavy duty which has been a very good unit and I will pass on to a friend in need and a GE apartment size dryer - 110 volt which in my opinion has been very unreliable with at least 2 complete overhauls in the time I've owned it including the motor and element. I am scraping the dryer for junk. I see LG and Eurotech market these compact all in one units at Homedepot in Canada. I've heard various things including that they never get the clothes completely dry. I understand the cycle is about 4 hours, but if it doesn't completely dry the clothes, then how good are they. Any one have any firsthand experience with this?

Here's a link to an appropriate discussion thread on gardenweb. There's lots of info there from people who've had first hand experience with these types of units. It would appear that the relatively new much larger LG unit is a good buy.

Hope this helps.

When possible i'd say the stacked (over under) are best.

F/L-ers like Frid-Ge-More are two stackable pieces.
In theory the size is now standard and one piece can be replaced later on when it dies, without having to get the mate.

Peteski50 has a F/L 110v all-in-one LG W/D. Takes forever to dry, but he seems to be very happy with it.

Peter? Where are you?

all in one washer dryers

my experience with washer dryers has been negative
the negative being that if you wash a full load then you can only let it dry a half load, we had to take half out and let it carry on and dry the other half then swap. It was a bit tedious and would have been easier of we could just wammy the whole lot in a proper dryer. The brand i had was Candy which is an Italian brand i believe, it took a long time to dry the load that was in there and ended up taking about three hours to wash and dry the half load that was in there, THEN we had to dry the other half of the load that we had to take out. We ended up breaking it by drying a full load of bed linen, after that it never heated up anymore. I would just save trouble and buy a washer and seperate dryer, i cannot recommend any brands coz i am in Australia and have a Whirlpool t/loader and a Fisher and Paykell wall mounted dryer.
Hope you find something good
Matty
