Only his filter knows for sure!!

I know some will find this disgusting but I figure if I have to pre-rinse there is something going on with the machine. Especially with an older Kitchen Aid. My KDS-20 cleans the heck out of everything. The only complaint I have is all that water heating and no constant rinse up top.

Anyone else care to share their dirty little secret??

Well,

That looks kind of normal for a 19-20 series as far as I know.

You could check the underside of the HydroSweep and see if the one and only nozzle is clogged that sprays off the filter.

Those 19-20 filters always have the food fiber that looks like hair along the bottom of the filter.

Just my observation over the past 9 years, and the 18 filters have the same fiber at the bottom.

Dirty Filter In A KD-20 DW

HI, yes as Eddie sugested be sure the filter cleaning jet in the bottom of the wash-arm is clear.

Other than be sure your DW is filling to the correct water level, if the inlet valve is the orignal it is probably worn out.

Also remove and throw away that silly little plastic trap unless you are a very careless user and break lots of glasses loading your DW.

Other than these sugestions you can see why WP and even GE DWs were better performers by the early 80s, after 10 years of having a KDSS-20 as one of the two primary DWs in my kitchen it was time for it to go. After a while you get tired of poor drying, smelly DW inside and little bits of food left on top of glasses.

Thank you gentlemen!!

Ironically when I first posted the pictures I did so because I was so proud to show how I DO NOT rinse my dishes. We always seem to get in this rinse/don't rinse debate.

HA! Imagine my surprise to find out I might have an issue with the machine. I never realized there was a cleaning jet on the bottom of the wash arm but I will check that. I think the water level is good but I'll check that too. The machine cleans really well other than the occasional Yibble or two on the tops of the glasses.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I had one like that and absolutely HATED it! I replaced it not long after I bought it with a TOL Maytag reverse rack dishwasher. That was one of the best I ever had!!!

I don't hate mine.

Although I wouldn't turn down a Reverse Rack in great shape.

So I found the little jet that is supposed to clean the filter. It did seem a little clogged so we'll see what happens next time around. Thank you.
