Last night, I was standing out at the grill making burgers. A father and son were walking down the street and stopped at the end of our driveway. I saw the little boy ask his dad a question and then he started to walk toward me.

The little boy (who I found out later was 5) asked me in this little voice "Can I see what kind of air conditioner you have?".

"Sure", I said.

The little boy then yelled (very enthusiastically)..."Hey dad...it's a Bryant!"

The dad told me that his son has a strong interest in air conditioning units and fans. To spend time together, they go for walks and keep track of what units people in the neighborhood have.

When I first started reading this I thought the little boy was going to ask you for a burger....maybe they were hungry.

But, thats cute.

In this day and age and in my area, the father would come back at night and steal it if he could.

Did you give him the address for this website. Kids on computers can type better than we do.
(I'll be he has some good recipes too !)

It could be that the dad in doing this may very well be shap

I could see the dad saying to himself if I encourage my sons interest in fans and A/C maybe he will go on to have a career in HVAC when he grows up and that is a good career to be in. Whether that is the case or not I think that it is awesome that the father and son do that. In the very least it means they spend some quality time together and that is always cool....PAT COFFEY

Just like me

But my mom would get mad if I wanted to go see what kind of washing machine different people had.

I still remember one time in the 70s we were at some people's house and I heard "Grind-click-clunk!" come from the utility room door. I knew exactly what it was. I perked up and went "WHAT WAS THAT!" The lady said, "The washing machine", and of course I could feel my mom's eyes burning a hole in me. She didn't have to say "Don't you go in there" but I knew that's what she was saying.

Literally a cooool kid there. Hopefully his Dad will follow the boy up like my Dad did us kids by buying us top notch tools to do stuff with at an early age. At age eleven, and I know this must be the xception to the rule, but my lil brother could tear down a Honda mini trail 5o motor and rebuild it and reinstall it without much assistance at all. I helped to have a factory certified Dad teaching ya.

In this area you dont dare walk in the evening or at night

You will be shot in a drive by.

I wish my dad had been like that

My favorite thing as a kid,was to look in peoples closet to see there vacuum, then the washer and stove,my dad was horrified at this and forbade me to ask anyone about appliances, which only encouraged me,he thought you had to play some kind of ball...you guessed it ,I would rather watch the stoplight change!!! My mother was wonderful, dad was a A......, He took my being gay better than my appliance obsession....Hans Craig

I used to like stereos and elevators too!
Whenever we visited any relatives of friends of the family, I would always look inside their console stereo to see what equipment they had in there. My parents would tell me to mind my own business. One friend of my Dad's had a component stereo that I really liked! The guy who owned it put on some classical music for me. Ever since then I have loved component stereo, and that's what I'll always have.

As far as elevators, I always preferred them over escalators which did nothing at all for me. I would always try to divert my mom to shop at stores that had elevators.

One of my boyhood friends also liked elevators so we hopped on the bus and went to Lake Street in Oak Park and would ride the elevators at Wiebolts, Marshall Fields, and I think it was Baskins mens store. We would just get on the elevator and go up and down for quite some time. I think we were 11 or 12 at the time. We did this several times over a period of a few months. Until the elevator at Baskins got stuck between floors. It just stopped (I think we pushed all the buttons at the same time, but it was only a 3 story elevator). Baskins had to call the elevator company to come get us out! They did something and the elevator went very slowly to the first floor. When we got out the store manager was there and he was VERY angry. He told us that we broke his elevator and who was going to pay for it?
He even called out parents to come pick us up! When they got there he told them that we need to lean that elevators are not a playground for kids! For years I really thought we broke the elevator! But I think it just happened to malfunction when we were in there. Needless to say, my parents were not very happy and were also mad that we were so far away from home without telling them.
That was the end of my elevator obsession!
