Dryer capacity?

Last night I was searching for a new dryer. Our old one, timer model, has a problem with the timer. It stops at 30 min before the end and let de machine not finish the job. But that dryer is 25 years old and not worth saving anymore. But I've noticed that new dryers have smaller drums. My dryer has a capacity of 5 kg = 111 liter (10pounds = 3.9 cuft). But when I was looking at some manuals (miele, aeg, bosch...) I saw that they now offer 100 liter drums (3.5cuft). Why did they lowered the drum size. It does have it's effects on wrinkling and longer dryingcycles, does it? See energysavings?

What is 11 liters amoung friends?

10% in accounting and finance is considered a normal rounding and/or measurement variation /error.
The size may be the same, but stated more conservatively to meet some orgaiziation's approval or rating certification.

If the drum size is indeed smaller, could it be sound and/or heat insulation in the the main cabinet?

What was the brand of the old dryer? Sounds like it had a somewhat larger drum than most European dryers. I don't know much about the size of the newer dryers, but older Mieles used to have a 103L drum and AEG's a 106L one.

Are you looking for a condenser dryer or a vented one? Bosch have 7kg capacity dryers, perhaps those drums are a bit bigger. I don't think there is much difference in size with a 5kg dryer.

It was an Olympia... But I wonder; is it correct to say how larger the drum, how faster it dries, how energyefficient (based on a 5kg load ofcourse.) or am I wrong. Otherwis I'll just big a dryer rated for 6kg to make a pair with my 5kg washer...

Supposedly 6kg dryers are more energy efficient than 5kg dryers, but ofcourse only if you load it with 6kg. Main factors for how fast a dryer is is ofcourse the heating element and the temperature it reaches. I think my old Zanker dryer got a little hotter than my Miele dryer and therefor was faster. I think the size of the drum would indeed make a difference in regard to creasing. But make sure a 6kg dryer has indeed a bigger drum than a 5kg one and not just a different capacity rating.
