DTV converter box

I currently have digital cable tv, but I only have one digital box from the cable company. They want $6.95 per each additional box per month. My question is, will the DTV converter boxes for the digital switch-over work in this case? They say they are for antennae to digital only, but why wouldn't they work to convert a cable signal to digital? Any help is appreciated!!

I think the cable DTV convertor is a completely different kind of convertor. I had been told that a cable DTV box would work on 'over the air' signals but it didn't and I wound up having to drive to New York state to pick up the right one. Stick with the cable DTV box to be safe (BTW, you may be able to buy one outright and that could save you some $$$ over the years).

You shouldn't need a digital box for every TV....only if you want Hi Def, On Demand, or Pay Per View....otherwise just hook up the cable to your TV as usual.......I have one digital box HD, that is on the main TV in the living room, only thing I use it for is the music stations to play over the stereo thru out the house, otherwise I don't need it....Cable company says I need a box for every TV...WRONG!...I have 8 TV's hooked up in the house, 7 don't have a box....I do however have a power booster for better signal strength...this came from COMCAST....

My guy used to work for COMCAST....as for any hot repairman....some of you guys call for service when it's not needed....you know who you are!...I could tell stories....Off my man, keep your hands...don't mess with my boy....lol

Well, not all cable systems are the same. You may get by without a converter box in some areas of the country but others have moved to all digital for provide more bandwidth so the boxes are required.

Simple answer --- try it --- if it works, OK, if not get a box. and no you can't use DTV OTA boxes for cable.

mmmm, I never met COMCAST guy, but sounds sexy lol. My partner and I are always asking each other about any delivery men that comes to the house (UPS, FedEx), cable guy, and our favoriate, The Orkin Man on 1. was he good looking, 2.basket? 3. clean shaven or beard. 4. chicken or beef. We get a kick out of this. As far as the digital box goes, I use it to record shows/movies. I was thinking about TiVo as another option. Does anyone use it, and is it cheeper than the digital box that the cable companies uses?

The broadcast digital TV converter I got at Radio Shack (Digital Stream brand) has a menu setting for antenna or cable.

So it might be able to get unscrambled cable TV digital signals.

I can't tell, though, since I don't have cable any more. I get all I need from the local broadcast stations (thank God for public television).

Yes..best advice is to try it, and see what happens, the only problem I ever had with TiVo and OnDemand was you could not record from them, they had COPY GUARD on them, even on Dora the Explorer, for the kids...better to rent and then copy...

We got some hot guys around here, pizz delivery not so much, but the electric meter reader and the UPS guys are smokin, sizzlin, and on FIRE!!!....UPS has strick dress rules about hair styles and only allow a moustache, no beard or goatee allowed, and only top button allowed open, underwear is optional, just drop their pen next time you get a delivery, check it out when he bends over, if they stoop instead, they play for our team....our guy tells all, HE bats for our team....am I lucky or what....don't worry, their checking US out too!!!...lol

try, wouldn't hurt. As far as delivery guys goes, I get a kick out of flurting with them. Of course you know that get hit on a lot. I once got lucky with a water meter guy , but that another story. As far as the above posts regarding Wal-Mart consumer service, I have always find that being nice to the delivery guys, talking to them sweatly, offering to give them a helping hand with the delivery,and even offering them a cookie/brownie and a cold drink will go a long way, and you might even get lucky if thats your thing!

I'm able to make archival backups of my VHS movies by routing the output of a stand alone VHS recorder through a digital effects box and then to the DVD recorder (which is a Panasonic combo DVD/VHS recorder also). The Panasonic won't directly copy protected material, but it does pretty great at making backups of off-the air stuff I recorded some years ago. Something for long winter nights...

My first real job was delivering pizzas. It was a brutal introduction to the ways some people choose to live, and the living hells they create for themselves.. When you weren't walking headlong into a domestic dispute, you'd have a lonely housewife (and occasional lonely husband) standing there buck nekkid at the doorway. I've seen things so disturbing and/or disgusting, I wouldn't even describe them publicly.

The ones that are easy to get are usually the ones you don't want.....you can't rape the willing....and these guys couldn't be so lucky...lol...their only chance at an orgasm is if their finger broke thru the toilet paper....

although...if you get a Jehovah witness at your door, you can always offer a NAKED dip in the hot tub...gets rid of them fast every time

and I know were a little off subject here, but a little offering here and there goes a long way..(be nice now)...offer the UPS guy a cold bottle of water(my packages are always carried inside my doorway), put a $20. in the XMAS card of your garbage guy(my cans have the lid replaced and lined up on the front lawn), offer soda to the gas company crew( my lawn was leveled and grass replaced like new), when my roof was installed( I layed out coffe and donuts every morning...actually that was 4 hours of pumped up sugar rush, does that count?....I even made lunch when the guys brought my new washer/dryer, sure they cleaned as usual, but also vacuumed the area, and reinstaleed the doorI had to take down, and even took their boots off in my house.....Karma is a good thing....actually most are amazed, most customers don't do this.....a simple gesture means a lot to thse guys, and it's really not a lot of effort, try it sometime, see what happens!

I could not have said it better than myself. I have made it my point of being nice and doing at least one good deed to a person each day. If you are having a real crappy day, just try doing a good deed to at least one person you meet and you will see what I'm talking about.
