Dual Drive

after the helical drive maytag installed the orbital tranny and then they had the new dual-drive...but I don't see any of them on here or you tube....has anyone seen them?...how do they work?.....

it's supposed to return to the larger base agitator and a slower longer stroke to the agitation...

The dual drive tranny is the modified norge tranny.

Somebody else on here explained the idea behind the transmission was to have 2 of every gear which would make it more balanced and therefore eliminate the need for a counterweight on the other side of the transmission.

thanks for the info guys,,,youre a big help,,,i wonder if i could put the inerts from a dual drive into the body of a orbital machine....i like the version of the matched set i have, but would prefer the slower longer stroke of this tranny,,,something may have to look into....

Very much doubt you could do that as they are totally different designs, but i could be wrong.

I realy liked the Norge built washers.Before the 80's,the older HUGE capacity dryers they made were also one of my favorites.I did not like the later models w/the painted as aposed to porcelain tub.I don't prefer them, but the polly tubs Norge had were better than WCI's or GE's.Many people believe that Magic Chef, Admiral or even JennAir made these for Maytag.None of those companies ever made washing machines of their own in that era.It was Norge that made them all. They,Norge,made almost as many brands of laundry equipment as Whirlpool including Signature,Wizard,Magic Chef,JennAir,Maytag,Crosley,and Bradford.They also had a comercial line of washers,dryers washer/dryer combinations and drycleaning washer dryer combinations.Thousands of them!Their factory is(was)in Illinois.I miss Norge World!!

The very first huge capacity domestic washers were Norge's 18 pound capacity models.Frigidaire followed in similar fassion but more than 5 years later.The porcelain tubs on the Norge and Frigidaire had many similarities in design.Both had high speed spins and removeable front panels for easy access to the trans.Both were workhorses and popular in big family homes.
