Dyson Contrarotator Washer to be introduced GLOBALLY!!

I wrote Dyson a couple days ago asking if they were planning on ever relasing the Dyson Contrarotator washer in the US at all and here is the reply I just recieved!:

Thank you for your interest in Dyson.

The Dyson washing machine uses patented 2-drum technology and has 124 other patents and patent applications. In fact it has twice the number of components as other machines. 89% of owners love their Dyson 2-drums and recommend it to their family and friends, and Which? recently found Dyson 2-drums to be the best performing machine.

The reality for Dyson is that this highly innovative machine is very expensive to make specifically for one country. Dyson 2-drums were designed for the UK market, meaning that Dyson doesn't gain the manufacturing efficiencies that would be possible if the machine were sold globally. Dyson has temporarily withdrawn the washing machine from the UK market while our teams of engineers develop the next generation of the Dyson washing machine, which will use innovative technology designed for a global market.

I don't know much about the internal design of these machines but it will be intersting to see what changes they make for the new model.

See, now I read this totally differently.....

It sounds like the Dyson washers as a brand-name will be global, but probably not the contra-rotators.

Based on their own admission, there are too many complicated parts and too much overhead (costs/expesne) with this machine which appears to have been an economic failure even in its own original market.

The washer division would pribably have liked an income from selling washers (if it were possible) while working on R&D for a better washer.

The contra-rotator engineering needs to be re-engineered (eliminated, perhaps?) to be able to compete.

It had never impressed me this machine in how it manage the laundry...

It seems to me that even a common FL twist&tangle the clothes (I say it comparing with the same laundry done in TLHA or in a TLVA it would be the same I think), imagine how it would be the laundry got out in a such IMHO absurd way to wash it... not only one drum rotating in one direction and the stationary window to behave like you were doing a meatball but either a "contra-rotator" drumm to do what? buhh! nothing to do with my ideas of what washing clothes means...

The quetion is "Would you like to buy and try a Dyson contrarotaro washing machine?"

The answer is "No Thanks!"

Hi jamie, what a very interesting answer to your question!! I wonder what Dyson UK will say to the same question, lets find out!!!

The more I see the "Dyson Wash Technology" the more I am intregued...having seen the recent vids on here I can see why the "HandWash" movement would work, having watched my mum and grans mimic the same movement in handwashing getting clean results....

I love the fact tha James Dyson is a Britsh Entrapeneur who had the courage of his convictions for a different product and stuck to his guns in the face of possibly his own bankrupcy etc.....me personally IMHO I would like less plastic, more streamlined look for kitchen integration etc .....watch this space...

Perhaps in its new line of washing machines Dyson will drop the useless and harmuful (for clothes)contrarotating technology so complicated to build. (I, like many italian guys here,have never seen neither touched nor disassembled one of these machines but who cares? ) What's the need for such a weird technology when there already are good old technologies so much appreciated here by so many young brilliant engineers... Perhaps people here owing such monsters simply love to have laundry tangled and twisted...
By the way I would love to buy and test one myself. Too bad these machines are sold only in U.K

Useless?????

Not sure what you mean by useless and harmful contraroting technology.It mimics a hand wash action. It is a much better use of a washing machine from what i've seen so far in that the clothes are cleaned in a shorter time and cleaner than possible with an ordinary drum going back n forth. You really have to use one to see what I mean the clothes speak for themselves. I find no twisted damaged clothes and its so blooming quick!

I for one would be dissapointed if Dyson abandoned the contraroting design because it is simply brilliant and i'm sure Dyson will find a way to make it viable in a cheaper way.

You're right. The Contrarotator would have the Contrarotating technology in all territories. I also think they'll finally come out with a matching dryer for the machine.

oooh that's too much. A matching dryer!! Imagine what Mr Dyson would come up with. No doubt it would have some revolutionary action that dryed clothes like no other dryer in existance and probably with cold air or some drying action that puts willy wonka to shame with its wackiness lol

It would probably also do away with lint with a cyclonic jet system like Dyson vacuums have.
