Easter 2020 Classic Appliances Virtual Meet

Hello Mike, yes its springlike here thankfully, and the gardens with the lines of washing and beautiful flowers just made for great pics..thanks

The little tabletop Electrolux uses a small pump to deliver the jets up the side of the cabinet and to slowly turn the basket, quite efficient, best on a mixer tap where you could do a cold prewash and then hot wash sanitise & dry.

Heres the In-Store Electrolux demonstrator presenting the Dishmaid..

Easter 2020 Classic Appliances Virtual Meet

Afternoon Peter, glad you enjoyed the vintage classics, the guys did a great job enjoying & filming their collections.Nowthen, that spinner is a tad vibrational at the moment, we realised its the front cabinet reverbing when accelerating,
the packing blocks hadnt gone back in between the outer tubs and cabinet hence the reverb, and yes turboprop indeed ha ha...

Mum had an English Electric Rapide 66, the slimmer model, that cooked for six of us 1966 to 1978 until the Tricity President double oven took over !!

I see a rotary iron on this thread - here is a picture of a Morphy Richards that Mum had up to 1977, the pedal was connected to the appliance by a Bowden cable; pressing the pedal pulled the iron tight to the roller and switched on the motor. The lever allowed the iron to fall back further in order to insert items of clothing. She mainly used it for sheets and towels as it was a bit fussy for clothing. A knob inside the end of the roller disconnected the drive to allow it to be turned by hand. We also had a Tricity President double-oven, bought cheaply off the local technical school's home-ec kitchen. It replaced the Gala Hi-Speed in 1986 and lasted until a utility room remodel in 1994. Congrats to the chef - the Malteser cake looked mighty tempting!

Arhhh ok - I thought it was Darren’s as I know he has one of these very short production 1400’s - never heard or seen that kind of accessory before, is it Hotpoint marked ?
Looks great, I need to give mine a run as I haven’t used it for years.
Cheers

Fab thread Mike. You’ll need a lie down with an ice pack on your head and some cucumber slices to sooth those tired eyes after pulling those clips together and doing this thread! It’s much appreciated and it’s brilliant how it has all turned out this time as we were all working blind! As Mathew said it was great to see other people from around the world and some different machines too.

I would think you are right Mathew on the spinner funnel - when you think the later Hotpoint (and EE) twin tubs came with the removable top to allow you to access the side of the spin can to retrieve items (usually unmentionables) even though the gap on these later ones was much less than this model. There must be an old parts catalogue somewhere that might have one in somewhere fingers crossed

S :)

Hi Steve,
Sounds like a good theory, was the 1420 even deeper gap between the top surround and spin can ? On the on in the pic the gap is the same as all the other 1400’s.
When dragging clothes over would it not get in the way ?
Interesting, i have a parts catalogue for the 1400’s - will see if its listed:)
Cheers

Hi Keith

This was Darren's, as they came up over the years I always let them go to others, then when was outbid, Darren was good enough to offer me this one, I know he has the original 1400, not sure if he has another as well. Yes I'm sure the gap on this and the original are the same. I think the way to use the spin guard, would be not to when transferring large items, sheets towels etc, in the video, i was washing shirts and it wasn't really needed, but if your washing small items and you lift them out of the washtub with the tongs and drop them in then would work well. But yes if you drag the washing over then you'd dislodge it.

Hi Mathew,
I did wonder if it was Darren’s, he and i were the only 2 that had this type of 1400 - it was only produced for a very short time (maybe a year) before the 1420 was launched to the market.
I have to say never heard of the spin guard, new one on me, i have a couple of spares catalogues of the time so will see if they list it as an optional extra :) looks great.
Cheers

Kitchenaid DW, US version Of This Was aA KDS-17

This DW even in the US had the heater down in the sump, and this European version would have to have had a water heater element to heat water for the Sani-cycle and I would suspect that it was used throughout to heat and or maintain water temperatures.

Hi Mike Chester and everyone else that helped put this fun thread together.

This was a lot of work for you guys, unfortunately Jason and I have been busier than ever trying to reorganize all the parts and do other build-outs at the warehouse and did not get in much time to play with the appliances, I also hope to participate in one of the Zoom meetups in the future. but for now we are determined to get things in shape at the warehouse so we can host a future event.

Love that Miele Combinette - especially with the chrome washdeck. Were Miele twintubs sold in the UK as never seen a British version.

Would be good to understand what all the controls do and how the hose arrangement works - is it the fill and empty hose on the same connector or was there a separate drain hose?

S

Thanks for another great thread Mike, it was great to be involved with all this. I like the look of that Miele Combinette too, I would happily have one of those if we'd had them in the UK.

Hi all.

Mike - thanks for taking the time to put the videos together and to everyone who contributed footage. Really enjoyed watching them all and seeing how everyone's collections are currently doing.

I wish I could have send in some video, but the machines over my end are currently hidden behind towers of spare parts boxes rendering them all inaccessible sadly. The boxes are usually kept in the shed, but the shed it to be painted over the coming weeks. Most frustrating.

I was working on a separate appliance project, but one a lot less interesting to watch than peoples actual machines. Hopefully still worthwhile though - will post a sneak peek on the UK Twin Tubs thread soon.

All the best to everyone.
Paul

Thank you Mike and team

for sharing such a wonderful post, I've so enjoyed it and watching all the videos! Just fabulous that so many of these machines are saved and restored. Cheers Alan
