I use ecover laundry soap and it does a pretty damn good job, especially if I dump 2 ounces of oxyboost in with the wash.
I wasn't impressed with ecovers fabric softener though. The clothes didn't feel any softer, compared to no softener at all. I also had a lot of static issues.

I will give you a full report after I've done a few loads with it. I don't use liquid fabric softeners. My roommate seems to have allergies to something in Downy which cause him to break out.
So I mainly use dryer sheets or nothing at all.

I have used these products (I can purchase them locally at Schnucks). The lavender detergent and softener smell quite fresh. I prefer the non-scented softener though. It does not require very much product at all - if you use the dosage instructions (at least here) your clothes will be too soft and a little greasy feeling.

I saw the detergent at Schnucks too. It was only $5.46 for the bottle. Dixieland, do you have a TL or FL machine? The bottle says it can be used in a HE machine, I wonder if I will have to cut back on how much I use in my FL.

I have a TL machine and dose as instructed. Now, I am no fan of liquid detergents so in order for me to that "slippery water feeling" I add a scoop of borax to the brew when I start the washer. It's a nice product overall. My mother requests it sometimes as no stores in her area carry the line.
Again, I use very little fabric softener - that is just a personal preference (I like my towels to absorb water when I use them).

Trying It Right Now
I bought a bottle today, and using it right now. I wasn't sure how much to use for a FL machine so I went with the amount for a Medium size load, unless you are supposed to use the same amount for both FL and TL machines. I bought the Chamomile & Ylang it was the only sent Schnucks had in stock.
