We just bought one, the gen3 model, and paid 227 dollars for a refurbished unit. We bought it to help heat the front of our house, (living room, dining room, kitchen), as the furnace is in the back (bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry room) and we like to keep the bedrooms very cool. We were using 3 small electric radiant heaters, which was ok, but they had to be shut off at night and they were a fire hazard. So we brought home the Eden Pure, and I am not too impressed so far. I have it turned up to max. and have another electric heater on, and the furnace is running, and the living room has gone from 59 degrees, up to 60, back down to 59, and is currently up to 62. It seems like it should do more for 230 dollars!

I had one for a couple of years; it only really makes YOU feel warmer. The ambient temperature doesn't rise much. I was kinda hacked off when it quit working after a couple of years. Hope yours turns out better.

Consumer reports reviewed the GEN3 awhile back in their space heater reviews.
The Eden Pure did not fare well as it was at the bottom of their reviews. They were not reliable, as one of their test units had the front of the unit melt. The Gen3 also does not have some safety features that newer models have.
CR noted that these are not space heaters, they are supplemental heaters meant to work with your current heating system.

Tomato vs Tomatoe?

We have a Chinese knockoff version

The HearthSun was bought at a local vacuum shop. At first we were very unimpressed, but it grows on you. It is a gentler heat than a full blown radiant system. What we found works the best is to get the room up to the temperature you want it with the furnace, with the heater operating turn your furnace down about four degrees; and the heater will maintain the temperature of the room pretty well.

We also found, because we have high (10 ft) celings, if we run the celing fans in reverse at low speed it helps bring the warm air back down.

After last year what we discovered was the gas bil went down about $100-$150 per month and the electric bill went up about $25.

If your unit is a refurb, there could have been something wrong with it the reason it was sent back to begin with. Do you have a return policy with the refurbs?

I tried an Eden Pure a couple of years ago. There was a full-page ad in the paper and they were running a special promotion. Luckilly, they had a full money-back guarantee, and after a week of using it went right back. For all the science and engineering that they claim go into these heaters, it failed to maintain a comfortable tempurature in a 10x12 room. It was on full blast for a week and the room was still cold.

A lot of money for not much heat. Besides, any heater is pretty much limited to maybe 1500 watts max so I can't see as you're going to get "more" heat from it than say a $30 run of the mill plug in heater that uses 1500 watts. I think a lot of these type heaters and there are others like the Sun Heater, similar etc. are sort of a rip off.

Basically, any 1500 watt heater will do the same thing. You can't magically make more heat out of the same input.

That said, I rather like the Vornado designs for heating a larger area as the swirling pattern does seem to circulate air better BUT it isn't the best if all you want to do is warm your tootsies.

Some of the Vornadoes are still made in USA, too.

I saw this on display at the mall yesterday, and I was not impressed with this vs a regular heater.

As SupderSud said, 1500 watt heater are pretty much all the same.

I have the oil filed unit and does a great job heating up the family room.

I have an oil-filled for the bedroom. The only drawback is that it doesn't provide instant heat, but it seems very safe because it doesn't get that hot. I know you're not supposed to sleep with a space heater on, but I feel okay with this design.

welll, still not incredibly impressed, had it on all night, the living room was 58 degrees this morning, then cranked up the other heater and the furnace, got it up to 68, turned off the furnace, it slowly cooled off, and the living room is 65 now, with the eden pure on full blast and the other electric heater on low. I still think it should work better for the price. it is fairly quiet though, compared to 2 smaller, but noisy heaters. Whirlcool--- friends of ours have one, and love it, and while it continues to work fine, the front control pad has partially melted or deformed, so the melting issue was not just one defective unit.

I have to chime in

I am not trying to sound rude, but this situation to me, is not rocket-science.
you have said that your not impressed with it from the start, you have a another heater going along with this Eden pure heater in the same room, and does not even out the room temputure, even thou its on full-bore? take it back and get your money back! There is much better heating products, for the money you just spent for this, and not refurbished.

If, as Westingman123 says, these Eden units only make a person FEEL warmer, you won't see much (if any) temperature increase. This, however, may be good enough. The temperature needed to protect stuff is a lot lower than the temperatures we feel comfortable at. (A storage unit manger whom I know says he keeps his storage place set at about 55 degrees--a lot lower than most people could tolerate, but warm enough, at least for his unit/this area, to preserve stuff that's in storage.)

I also would think that a refurbished unit COULD have "issues." Sometimes, a refurbished item is as good as new. Other times it's a flawed piece of junk. A former roommate whipped through at least 2 coffee makers that were "refurbished" "like new" before giving up and buying new.

well... it was returned yesterday! I dont notice any difference in temperature either... I am planning on purchasing 2 electric radiators to replace it, at about 1/4 the cost.

We bought two of them....

Kept them one week and sent them back, Our living room is 14x17,and the large size eden pure would not get it above 60 when the outside was about 25, one of the oil filled heaters would keep it 70. They are a fraud as far as im concerned.
