Thanks for the tour

The box next to the Hamilton dryer is a Westinghouse. The rest are WP, as was stated and they are standing in front of yard upon yard of Whirlpool drapery fabric. Photo #7 is the small electrics/housewares bonanza with all of the usual icons of Sunbeam, Presto and Westinghouse appliances along with the boxed set of Revere Ware so popular as bridal shower, housewarming and wedding gifts.

This was really a neat store, in business from 53-79. They probably got out when the downtown business district died due to malls and big discounters had already been nibbling them to death for a decade. That would be a Twilight Zone store experience. You get to go back and look at stuff, but you can't buy anything because your money is too new. Then they want to see your ID and it's all from 50 years in the future. Just as the policeman is about to haul you away, your spell or visit is terminated and he is left holding empty air where your arm once was.

Or the reverse scenario where you spend a wonderful day in the store looking at everything and talking to everyone and decide to return the next day and find a shell that's been vacant for decades. You don't dare make the mistake of asking anyone about the wonderful store that was there "yesterday."

Great Look Back!

Know some "Old Timers" from Pittsburgh in our street, am going to send them the link!

Love the "Brass Rail Restaurant", someone needs to bring that sort of diner, bar, juke-joint decor themed spot again. *LOL*

*Eastman Kodak Stores*

Gosh almost forgot they even existed.

*Palmer's Restaurant and Lounge*

Not that looks like *my* kind of place! *LOL* Very upscale, but not too frou-frou. Sort of like the spot Gloria Wanderss is taken a few times in "Butterfield 8", the final visit results in her being told off by her lover, and another patron telling him to shove a sock in his verbal abuse because "I've got my WIFE here".

*Down-Town*

Such glorious shots of down-town Pittsburg, both day and night. Anyone remember when going "DT" really meant something? Be it shopping, to have lunch, dinner and or see a show or film, if someone said you were going, it was bound to be fun. People got dressed to go down-town then to. No flip flops or shorts!

*OMG* "Clark Candies"!

Remember "Clark Bars"! Are they still around? Had no idea they stared in Philly.

Give Me A "C", Give Me A "L" Give Me "ARK", what does it spell?

I only wish that another fun candy,"Bonomo" was still around!

"you smack it, you crack it" Turkish taffy

B . O . N . O . M .O . , Bonomo. Oh! Oh! Oh!, It's Bonomo,candy!

Cherry and banana were my favorite flavors.

I haven't heard that tune in 30+ years!!

If you go to some really small towns in Texas, like Kerrville, you'll still see small appliance stores like these.

Several years ago a friend of ours needed a new dryer. So she went to her small town appliance dealer to buy one. They had 3 different dryers in stock. That's all.
Choose one. What happens if the one you want isn't in stock? You special order it and wait several weeks for it to arrive.

Like the local Chevy dealer isn't a Chevy dealer at all, they carry all GM lines and usually there is room for one car only in the showroom.
