Electra

I got it today from work Hass. It's dated from 1996 & it looks brand new, all that was needed was a set of new motor brushes. As i'm typing this now it's ramping up to 1200rpm on the final spin.

Video's Well of course Hass. I was gonna do a short one tonight but the sd card in my camera is playing up so tomorrow will be videoing night.

If only people were just a little more mechanically minded as most of us are on here then they could keep their washers working for a lot longer.

Creda or Hotpoint?

The base machines were built by hotpoint and then sold on to creda, which then put the front panel on and sold them. This is why so many machines look like the hotpoint wm62 / wm64.

@henrypeter

This machine was based on the WM31/WM34, same layout of buttons, same layout of programmes. (just rinse hold instead of slow spin, and half load instead of super rinse).
The WM6* machines had different dials, different programming (ever so slightly), and the buttons in a different position.

Hotpoint built the machines,as you say, they then sold it on to the company either Creda, or Electra(?) and then they added the door, control panel.
Under the control panel, the layout of buttons and times etc, is exactly the same as the WM1*, WM2*, WM3* machines etc.
This Electra has the 1200 section on the dial, which means it is laid out as the WM31, WM34 machines.

Hotpoint did not make these machines to sell onto Creda or Electra.

GEC/Hotpoint OWNED the name Creda and thus just added different fascias and features to Creda machines although I suspect Creda would of been run as in andividual business within a business kind of thing.

Electra on the other hand was a "Brand" owned and sold by various retail company's over the years and had many manufacturers badging machines up to be sold in their own shops. Whether the machines we actually sold on to the chain at a price and then marked up by the chain for their own profit and pricing strategies OR whether the manufacturer subsidised the chain and gave the chain money per unit sold I have no idea.

Hi Craig.

Congrats on your newest old acquisition.
Never seen that version of Creda/Electra before, though have heard of the model number.

Certainly is the basic machine of a range, though a change in typeface could have made a subtle difference for the better.

Great that an slightly more unusual example of the Hotpoint/Creda (and electra) range is now in safe hands.

So thats an Indesit Omega, Hoover Logic 1200, Hotpoint WM, a Hoover Nextra and an electra in the collection. An excellent range of machines you have.

Well i've never come across this Electra version of machine too so i don't think that they was many of these Washers manufactured but i kind of like the simplicity of the styling for such a basic looking machine & it is exciting & fun to watch & it washes really well & quick so i guess it has exactly the same programming as loads of other GDA Washers especially the Creda W100FW/W120VW & the Hotpoint WM series Washers. & yes my collection is really growing now that i have the choice of four classic machines, so i can swap & change my current Washer when i get bored every six months or so.

Electra 17055E

I have the set!
Purchased in 1998 a washer Electra 17055E 1200 spin showermatic plus the matching tumble dryer. Recommended by my Father because he used to work for the old Electricity Board in Norfolk for 1 day short of 50 years. He said this would go on forever and be easy for me to repair. Correct £12.50 spent so far on one repair - a new inlet (hot and cold) solenoid thingy because it was toatlly full of scale from our pipes and had burnt out. Easy fix for a young lady too.
Problem for the last couple of washes this week though. It gets stuck as it is about to enter the rinse cycle (which ever mode I choose 30 deg or 60 deg)and seems to have switched itself into a hang on for several hours mode! So when I moved the dial on a fraction it started again carried on o.k. and drained and spun well. But I dont't think it will help the dial if I keep doing this. Any suggestions welcomed as to how to remedy it.
It does heat up and keeps heating until it gets rather hot so I think its electrical rather than the pump/sump.
I love this machine and can't afford a new one right now as my heating boiler has been playing up too and just paid for that with an arm and a leg!
Nice to see others with them still The local shop just said buy a new one if its 5 years old or more.

If it's sticking on the heating part of the wash cycle, and continuing to heat constantly, then that would tell me that the thermostat isn't working as it should, the thermostat should detect that the water has heated to the right temperature e.g. 30c or 60c and then tell the timer dial to advance on automatically to the next stage of the cycle.

That's what it sounds like to me anyway.

Hope this helps.
