Hi all, A friend of mine sent me this link and I thought it was really interesting and wanted to share it with you all. If you have an interest in vacuums you will love it. It is really the story of George Nilson who sold Electrolux Vacuums in Washington State from 1947-1965. There are some really neat pictures that you will enjoy. Terry

WOW!! fascinating site. Enjoyed it.They are so right about the new Areus machines-they are so LOUD compared to the soft sound of the 'Lux older machines. The Areos 9000 sounds like you are trying to vacuum your house with a B-52 revving for takeoff!!and the plastic body just looks so sleazy compared to the classic 'Luxes.
Was George a branch manager? in the pictures it looks like he is giving salesman trainee sales training.Kirby,TriStar,Areos,Rainbow, filter Queen still give such training today.Have training videos from these.

Great Lux page Terry! Wouldn`t it be neat if we just had one of there sales pitches recorded! I love the model 30s. :)

Tolivac, it is my understanding that he was never a branch manager but that could be wrong. It is clear that he was one hell of a salesman though. Don, I agree it would be so neat to have a recording of one of his sales presentations. We were very lucky at the 2003 and 2004 vacuum convention to have Don Clark as a guest speaker. He was a branch manager for Airway in Milwaukee. He had such great stories to share with us. Terry

Excellent Electrolux page! Charlie Lester definitely should have come to the Convention and taken part in the vacuum fun Saturday night...would have liked to meet him!

His site is a wealth of information and was one of the first vacuum sites I checked out...spent hours browsing!!

I had a late-40's Model XXX (with the black leatherette) when I was little...what a cool machine. It went to the Goodwill; I'm still looking for "the right one".

Don Clark and Air-Way

Terry,
Don Clark started as a sales rep for Air-Way, then became a branch manager and eventually the national sales manager and distributor. He worked with George Lovely, Jr., who now owns Air Tech Industries, (manufacturer of the BK 2000 vacuum), in Worcester, MA. George is also the guy that bought the Air-Way attachment tool molds and he still makes the attachments in polished aluminum which I think you saw at Fred's house.

George get fed up with a number of things Air-Way was doing and started his own company like the guy who worked for Kirby and then went on to start Bison Vacuums.

Don remained for a long time and to the best of my memory, left after Steve Tomberlin bought the company and moved it to Taledega, AL. Under Don's leadership, Air-Way rose to it's pinnacle selling thousands of units weekly all over the country. I'm glad we were able to give him recognition as a, "Legend", in the world of vacuums. Listening to him speak was certainly entertaining and very educational.

Have a great weekend,
Charlie

Charlie I knew that you would know the whole story concerning Don. He was a fantastic speaker and added so much the wonderful evening program that planned and set up. Terry
