Neither had I until I rebuilt the clutch in mine! This is the same harvest gold GE Filter-Flo I've had since the beginning of the year and I finally decided to do something about the volume of noise it was creating. Since the machine came to me, it's gotten quite a bit of TLC, but I've never taken the time to give the clutch the attention it deserved!

Well that stopped today. I took the assembly out and gave it a good cleaning, replaced the shoes and repacked the bearings. The bearings in the shoe pivots were completely siezed in place! Only one shoe was even swinging out to drive the drum!

After all the TLC it's gotten, it runs like a new one! I've never seen a GE that I'd ever consider "quiet", but in all honesty this one is FAR quieter than my Maytag, and it's a very quiet washer! No more rattling......no more "BRAAAAAAAAAAAAK" noise when the motor turns on......nothing! It even comes up to spin faster!

I love it when stuff works like it should!

I always thought GE's were kinda noisy when they were running good...but I had one that would turn the filter flo off...and could not believe how quiet the machine really is, its the water flowing into the filter and splashing that makes all the noise....but I have also heard one with a bad clutch...sounds like its going to fly apart...

great job otherwise...yeah, its nice when things work out right...congrats!

Great Job!

I have always loved the sound of the older filter flo's such as yours!
Love the energy sticker on the front. What was the rating?
Thanks for the video.

That's exactly the same as my Filter Flo!

What year did you say yours was? Late 80's?

I miss my GE - I may have to tear into it sooner rather than later.

Yours looked and sounded great!

I think that white GE is a very similar model to the one I've got. From what I've been told it's a mid-late 80's model. I've never gotten a firm date on when it was made.

Here's the EnergyGuide sticker...

I don't even want to know what the machine receiving the rating of the "most expensive" washer was that year...

Well done. Now you can enjoy a nice, quiet Filter-Flo. Thanks for the explanation in the video. Many around here know all about how washers work, but, unfortunately, I'm not one of them. Wishing you many trouble-free loads!
