So one of my facebook friends posted these pics of her DD Roper that decided to blow up. I have no idea what was being washed at the time, but I've never seen anything like this with one of those units. The outside tub was even shredded. Unbelievable.

Looks like the result of someone throwing a cinder block into it while it was spinning.

Would like to know what they were washing in the machine at the time this happened.

Broken WP Built DD Washer

I have seen similar things happen a few times on DD washers. It has usually been caused by one of several failures like, a broken basket center-post, a broken balance ring, loose suspension clamps and springs and of coarse if you drop a cinder block in the washer when it is spinning at full speed this could happen, LOL.

It is not really a big deal when you consider how many of these machines they made and how seldom anything like this happens, and I will bet you the machine was showing signs of problems that were being ignored by the user-owner before this [ JUST ] happened, LOL.

Lots of Dust

Seems like a lot of white powdery substance on the outside of that wash basket. Is that from the plastic outer tub? Wonder if something in the wash load was able to slip through a tub hole and grate against the outer tub...

Pic 2 appears that the balance ring is down inside the tub. Perhaps the most likely culprit?

Kind of reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer put a 50lb bag of Sacrete in a coin washer at the Laundromat.
