Can anyone tell me if fabric conditioners contain animal fats? I know sodium tallowate is animal origin but the ingredients on softners are vague. Being vegetarian i will not buy animal by products. I have emailed P&G and Unilever and await to hear though that could be 2100 til i get a reply lol.

I refuse to ever buy anything manufactured by P&G due their horrendous animal testing policies, the treatment of animals and the conditions that they're kept in

Check out these links -

P&G have been HEAVILLY criticised for their animal testing, but still haven't done anything about it. I therefore refuse to use any of their products including Ariel, Lenor, Fairy, Bold, Daz, Dreft, Flash, Pantene, Febreeze, Oral B, Herbal Essences, Iams, Duracel and Head & Shoulders.

I ususally by Unilever products, such as Persil, Surf, Comfort and Ciff, or I buy a store own brand. Unilever is against animal testing and funds research into alternatives.

All of my cosmetics come from Lush, so are 100% natural and not tested on animals.

Just out of curiosity how old are you?

I think its good to know that there are other ethically minded people about and i consider myself one.

Snap! I shop in Lush too however i can't use products containing parabens makes me itch.

I too try to avoid P&G, by using Persil and Comfort. I have used Aldi's softener (forgot its name) and also Sainsbury's own branded products which are great for the price.

I thought you might be within my generation lol Im 30. Just generally i find people older than our age range not really bothered about animal testing so makes a change to know there are similar people with similar views.

You didn't read what i put you doofus lol I said nice to know there are people in my age range 23 to 30 is not 35 years age gap. Someone can't do the maths lol

I try to minimize my use of P&G products but they are everywhere!

P&G make fragrances for Boss, Gucci, Lacoste, D&G and a few celebrity fragrances. They make food stuffs (such as Pringles) over the counter medication, batteries, pet food , a huge cosmetics range that includes Gillette, Olay and Oral B.......the list goes on and on!

Animal Testing For The Elderely

I am 52 and i remember in the 1980s Anti animal testing was a big thing, lots of shops started selling products that were not tested on animals and as far as I know some chains do still sell them.

We had The ALF (Animal Liberation Front) who would rescue animals from laboratorys, battery farms etc...........they were always in the news and much hated by the goverment, so dont go thinking this a new thing.

I remember flyers going around about Ariel doing a "LD50" test on animals, it stood for Lethal Dose test 50% death rate of those given what ever it was

But of course today "green" is a much bigger money spinner so that gets more attention.
