I've had a few striped shirts, and I notice that after even a few washes, the colored stripes end up bleeding into the white areas. For this reason I don't usually buy shirts like that anymore. It usually seems to happen with polos with a pique material, I haven't seen it as much with smooth tshirt like materials.
Is this caused by detergent or method? We use liquid detergent and cold water.
Also, what is the best way to wash baseball caps? I typically take these in the shower and fill them with water and put shampoo on them. Let it soak for a while and then scrub with my fingers. I figure the shampoo will dissolve oils that cause staining and odors on the caps. What I've noticed is caps made of nylon mesh-like fabric do best with this. They get the cleanest and don't fade. However ones with a more canvas like fabric seem to fade and turn a greenish color.
Most of these caps say to handwash on the labels.
