Over the weekend I picked up an old Model 208 Farberware Percolator. I would guess that it is from the early thirties. Tonight I tried it out to make some coffee and found that the unit perked the coffee non stop. I was expecting it to perk for a period of time and then go into a "stay warm" mode like the more contemporary pots I have.
Can anyone tell me if this is normal for a pot of this vintage or is something wrong with this old chap? Perhaps you had to time the perk cycle and then unplug the unit?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

Is it a 208 OR 206?

Hi Bill,

All of the Farberware pots that I know of from that era are NOT automatic. What that means is that they will not shut off at the end of a cycle. You must time the brew then unplug it!

Enjoy your new find!!! :-)

Another Question.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad everything is in order.

Yes the pot is a 208. I think it might be a bit larger than the 206. I saw a 206 on EBAY and it seemed to be a bit shorter than then one I just found.

Does anyone know if Dip-It is still available? I checked the two main grocery stores here and they don't seem to have it anymore.

Any other suggestions on cleaners to use?
Thanks again,
Bill

Windex!

You'd be absolutely amazed at the ability of Windex to cut through old coffeepot gunk. Spray it on, let it sit a few seconds, then wash. You sometimes have to repeat a few times on old coffeepots, but Windex usually does the trick (sometimes scrubbing with an old soft toothbrush helps things along). It's also miraculous on the carafes of modern drip coffeemakers.

They still make dip it. It is about 2.99 or 3.99 a box. Try a hardware store like true value or ace. If not you should be able to buy it online.
