I like the vintage Wamsutta Supercale Plus sheets (50/50 cotton/polyester) I got not too long ago. Many people don't like polyester blends, but except in the hottest weather they work for me, and they don't get wrinkled up as much as all-cotton.

Penney's Pencale all-cotton are good too and not expensive on Ebay. Penney's had good quality stuff. I suspect it was made by Pacific based on some similarities in the packaging, but the Penney's name has no cachet so it doesn't fetch the high prices of some vintage name brands.

Also had good luck with Pequot and Stevens Beauticale.

I am a heavy sweater, regardless of day and night.

We in Germany typically only have fitted sheet on the mattress, pillow cover and comforter with a comforter cover.

I have an all cotton comforter and recently invested in 4 sets of full linen bedding from IKEA.
Still pretty pricey but way cheaper than anything else similar.
Only gripe: They weren't available with zippers, but I wasn't paying double just to get something similar with zippers from another brand.

I've got teddy bear fleece bedding, the duvet and throw are soft warm and great, especially in winter. The fitted sheets and pillowcases are a little disappointing as the pile gradually gets flattened out with use. Previously I'd buy cotton sheets as I don't much like polycotton.

Hi David, I sleep hot too, and I've found these sheets pleasantly cool. Of course I always have at least a fan on, but they do the job. They're available on Amazon and on occasion on sale. I also have their 600 thread sheets, even smoother. In all the years I have been using them, I've had zero pilling and shrinkage has been minimal.

Since I bought a new mattress none of my old sheets fit well, they all pop off the corners each night. I went from a traditional 6-7" mattress to a 13".  I did buy a set of elastic clips that supposedly will hold the sheet in place, but at the moment I'm using new sheets from Target that I really like.  Good quality cotton, full elastic on fitted, deep enough, all for $37.00 - not bad.

I love this discussion!!

Thank you everyone for your recommendations!! These have given me lots to look at.

Louis and Bob, I ordered a pair of California Design Den 400 TC pillowcases to try out first.

Gary, I like the designs of the Nautica percales!

Matt, did you get the 400 thread count Threshold sateens? I used to use their previous version, the brushed ones and really liked them.

I use 100% cotton satin duvet covers. These are extra long so they can be tucked in and still cover me when I’m sleeping on my back. I have two different mattresses, a warmer and a cooler one. Sometimes I switch to the other side in the middle of the night. Fitted sheets on the mattresses. The bases are electrical adjustable and the bed is a bit higher than a normal Dutch bed so I can stand up easily.

I have been using Lands' End Oxford cloth sheets for years now and they are extremely durable, comfortable (for me, anyway) and launder beautifully. Because they are Oxford weave, they aren't smooth like sateen or percale, but I like the crisp finish.

I also like their linen sheets - very comfortable in summer or winter. I too, sleep "hot" so this is a boon for me.

I have also used LL Bean 280 thread count all cotton percale. Great sheets, but my Lands' End sheets have lasted so long, I haven't needed to replace my LL Bean stuff.

You can usually find the Lands' End sheets at a good sale price depending on the color and they are always running some kind of sale.
