Filter Flo project update?

Who needs tv or radio, just search on AW.org for threads with tecnopolis tackling heavy metal....always interesting and funny between - so, Alex...what else is planned for the much modified FF or is it complete and working as you wanted?

Those old turquoise and pink accent Filter-Flo's are like exotic birds compared to today's offerings.

I am at a crossroads, I have to decide weather to combine the best of the best or not, that is the question. I would be happy with having just one Filter-Flo. I would more than likely just sell the rest of what's left over, since some parts aren't quite interchangeable if I want to remain true to the way the machines are labeled. Such as Large and extra-large capacity. Being able to fit the special Spot Scrubber Mini-wash basket, filter pan, fabric softener disp and be able to close the lid. You can't do that with the shallower Large capacity wash tub, not even with the smaller mini-basket. Sounds like I just made up my mind.

Making road maps

At least you chart your own road and go for it..you get a lot of bang for the buck, and bucked around getting ..well, never mind. :-) I take it that you have a plethora of different baskets - thought of this thread, when I saw this on CL. Good work, Alex, whether it panned (basketed) out or not. :-)

Actually, that isn't my listing. Good deal though if you don't have to have it shipped, as the whole assembly is bulky and heavy.
My Filter-Flo chapter only began a few months ago, so I haven't had time to accumulate too many duplicates. And like you said, these birds aren't as rare as the models featured in some of the POD advertisements. I think one fully functioning Flo is gonna have to do. They way I figure it, It would cost more to have the dents/rust fixed and the cabinet repainted, than to body snatch the white cabinet.

Having both versions around has been very helpful. Seeing what makes them different was a good learning tool and that is priceless. Now, the next time I come across one for sale I'll know what to look for. Which is a great negotiating tool.
So watch this space, I sense change a'cummin.

Don't tell anybody, but there is this older creamy, beige Maytag pair for sale locally that are soo cheery and selling for the low, so I might have to quickly make room should they just suddenly appear at the entrance to my driveway. You know what I herd? Once you try a Maytag helical gear, you never go back. We'll see if the rumors are true. I'm on the case.

..wasn't alluding that it was your listing - just reminded me of the baskets you were trying to retrofit....

IS THAT YOUR Filter-Flo with the Energy Guide sticker, in front of that white and cream truck? Wow.

BTW, Ocala Craigslisting is good; those Maytags look regal in beige ( fun in turquoise, yellow). Not sure what you are saying about helical trans(my '84 A482 Maytag is helical).... thought the orbital trans were actually the more coveted. Whadda I know? :-)

Anyone care to venture a guess as to the models?

Washer is an LA608 (one step down from TOL).

Dryer is pretty low end. Probably an LDE308.

Hey Alex!

If you're not already scanning all that unique and extensive GE literature and sending it to Robert for the Ephemera archives I'm going to fly down to Florida and give you such a pinch.

@ bajaespuma

Don't worry bajaespuma, As long as there is an Automaticwasher.org, this information will always be part of the archives.
Robert has always run a tight ship, so I'm sure we aren't going by way of the Sumerians anytime soon. Although, the Mayans do say to keep your calendar free after Dec,22,2012. Jus sayn.

Keeping up

I watched in mesmerizing daze, an orbital trans demo shown in a tour of old washers, youtube. It's interesting how the motor shaft is translated to achieve the back and forth motion(the "force" was with the inventor that day).

Hope you kept that first GE FF - just LOVE that model. Older washers/dryers r so much more spirited...etc.

Recommendation of the day: don't get pinched, it has repercussions.

Thanks for the pic regardless of pinching.

That last 1964 Filter-Flo graphic was rare and wonderful. Have never seen its like before and once again I am reminded that I missed a great and enjoyable career by being born 20 years too late. Oh well.

That Sumerian on the left looks like my Great Uncle Vagheh.

I wanted to add this reply I left in another thread related to diagnosing speed actuator issues.

"keepitclean, Having just gone through what you are describing. I'll give you a few things to check to verify the position of your clutch during operation.

**The GE workshop manual specifically states DO NOT switch speeds with the motor engaged**

1) All muti-speed GE flo's start out in gentle, then switch to regular agitate.
2) If your machine starts out in regular fast or won't engage gentle, your solenoid is not getting power or jammed. The default speed is regular if there isn't any interaction from the actuator arm.
3) This last one is the hardest. Get a very bright flashlight and verify the position of the speed actuator arm. If it's down and not making any contact with the clutch cams, you should have normal/fast. If it's in the up position with it's paw holding one of the 2 clutch cams, you're in gentle. If you have it switched to Normal/fast and the cam is still up, you either have a short in the wiring keeping the solenoid energized or the cam arm is sticky/bent to far upwards and isn't comming down low enough to clear the spinning clutch cams. (Which was what happened to me when a leak energized the actuator during the wrong time, bending the arm, I took a long screwdriver and rebent the arm back down to clear the clutch cams and restarted the machine with normal back in biz."

Fall has finally reached the south and the humidity level has dropped to comfortable level. Perfect weather for working out in the garage, which is usually a sauna until way after dark. Now I can work on my Filter-Flo creations!
